Uttarakhand : Government Reviews Agriculture Missions and Strengthens Education Initiatives
Uttarakhand : Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a comprehensive review meeting on Thursday to assess the progress of key agriculture-focused initiatives and outline priorities for the coming year. The session, conducted at the State Secretariat in Dehradun, focused on programs aimed at improving farm incomes, promoting regional products, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices across the state.

Review of Agriculture and GI Tag Initiatives
During the meeting, the Chief Minister examined the status of agriculture-related Geographical Indication registrations, along with the House of Himalaya initiative. Officials also presented updates on several crop-specific programs, including the Millet Mission, Apple Mission, Kiwi Mission, and Honey Mission. These schemes are designed to encourage crop diversification, strengthen local value chains, and enhance market access for farmers, particularly in hill regions where traditional farming faces economic and logistical challenges.
Planning for the Coming Year
Alongside project reviews, the Agriculture Department shared its proposed action plan for the next financial year. Discussions covered production targets, marketing strategies, and measures to improve farmer participation. Emphasis was placed on aligning state initiatives with national agricultural priorities while addressing region-specific needs such as climate resilience and infrastructure development.
Appointment Letters Issued to New Teachers
A day before the review meeting, Chief Minister Dhami attended a separate event at Government Doon Medical College in Patel Nagar, where appointment letters were distributed to 1,035 assistant teachers in the primary education sector. Among those selected were 17 special educators, reflecting the government’s focus on inclusive education. The ceremony marked a significant step in strengthening the teaching workforce in government schools.
Emphasis on Education and Responsibility
Addressing the newly appointed teachers, the Chief Minister congratulated them and expressed confidence in their ability to raise educational standards across Uttarakhand. He noted that teachers carry a critical responsibility in shaping the state’s future, as quality education combined with strong moral values can positively influence both individual lives and society at large. According to him, educators play a central role in nation-building by guiding students toward discipline and civic responsibility.
Focus on Values and Citizenship
Dhami highlighted that teaching should extend beyond textbooks. He urged educators to instil a sense of duty toward society, culture, and the nation, ensuring that students grow into responsible and aware citizens. Such an approach, he said, would help nurture well-rounded individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to the country’s development.
Education Reforms and Modernisation
The Chief Minister also outlined ongoing efforts to modernise the education system under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These efforts include upgrading school infrastructure, expanding digital learning tools, and investing in teacher training and skill development. He stated that reforms are being implemented at multiple levels to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for a rapidly changing world.
Employment Generation for Youth
Highlighting employment achievements, Dhami said that over the past four and a half years, more than 28,000 young people have received government jobs in Uttarakhand. He described this progress as a matter of dignity and self-respect for the state’s youth, adding that the number of appointments made during this period exceeds those of earlier administrations. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding employment opportunities and ensuring fair recruitment processes.
Update from the Education Department
Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat provided additional details, noting that more than 11,500 appointments have been completed within the Education Department during the same period. Recruitment processes for over 3,500 additional posts are currently underway. He added that the state is placing strong emphasis on innovation in education, including new teaching methods and learning models aimed at improving overall quality.
