Interview Preparation Programme Played a Key Role

The successful candidates had participated in the Interview Guidance Programme (IGP) organised annually by NACS to support aspirants preparing for the final stage of the civil services selection process. The initiative focuses on helping candidates approach the personality test with clarity, confidence and a structured understanding of national and global issues.

As part of the programme, multiple mock interview sessions were conducted both offline and online. These sessions took place at Bihar Niwas in New Delhi and at centres in Patna, along with virtual discussions for participants from different locations.

Serving and former civil servants from various services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) participated in guiding the candidates. Santosh Kumar Rai, an IAS officer associated with the initiative, said that more than 23 participants of the programme ultimately cleared the examination.

Organisation Built by Civil Servants to Support Aspirants

The National Association of Civil Servants was established in 2014 by eight officers from the civil services under the guidance of former IAS officer B.K. Prasad. What began as a small effort aimed at supporting aspirants from Bihar and Jharkhand has gradually developed into a large network of officers committed to mentorship and public service.

Over the years, the association has expanded significantly. At present, more than 1,500 officers are linked to the initiative and contribute regularly despite their professional responsibilities across different government departments.

Most of these officers have roots in Bihar and Jharkhand and volunteer their time to mentor aspirants preparing for competitive examinations such as those conducted by UPSC, Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) and Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).

Free Academic Support and Structured Mentorship

A major feature of the programme is that all guidance sessions are conducted without any fee. Officers associated with NACS provide academic support, mentorship and interview preparation completely free of cost.

Apart from classroom discussions, the association also conducts dedicated sessions that focus on the personality test stage of the civil services examination. These sessions aim to help candidates develop clarity of thought, analytical ability and effective communication skills.

The interview panels typically consist of experienced officers from Bihar and Jharkhand who evaluate candidates in a structured and supportive environment. Organisers say the aim is to simulate the real interview process while ensuring that aspirants remain comfortable and confident.

To ensure continuous interaction, the association has also created dedicated WhatsApp groups where candidates can directly communicate with mentors. Through these groups, aspirants are able to raise questions, seek clarification and receive guidance at different stages of their preparation.

Discussions Cover Diverse Topics Relevant to the Interview

The mentorship programme includes detailed discussions on a wide range of topics that are commonly explored during civil services interviews. These include candidates’ academic backgrounds, personal interests and hobbies, as well as issues related to their home states and districts.

In addition, subject experts conduct sessions on current affairs, governance issues and international developments. These discussions help aspirants build a broader understanding of policy and administrative challenges, which is considered essential during the personality test stage.

Initiative Aims to Strengthen Civil Services Representation

NACS President B.K. Prasad said the organisation was founded with the idea that civil servants could collectively contribute to the development of society by guiding young aspirants.

He explained that the initiative began as a modest attempt to bring officers together on a common platform with the goal of supporting the progress of their home states and encouraging talented students to pursue careers in public administration.

According to Prasad, providing proper guidance to aspirants remains one of the core objectives of the organisation. He noted that focused preparation for the interview stage often plays a decisive role in determining final rankings in the civil services examination.

He also pointed out that the initiative seeks to address a decline in the number of successful candidates emerging from Bihar and Jharkhand in recent years. Over the past decade, several top performers in the BPSC and JPSC examinations have received support through NACS programmes.

Among the successful candidates mentored by the organisation this year are Raghav Jhunjhunwala from Muzaffarpur, Yashaswi Raj from Patna, Peachi Pandey from Muzaffarpur, Sudipta Dutta from Dumka in Jharkhand, Aniket Ranjan from Banka, and Abhishek Chauhan from Vaishali in Bihar, along with several others who benefited from the initiative.
