Security – Amit Shah Orders Intensified Anti-Terror Operations in Jammu and Kashmir
Security – Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security review in Jammu on Friday, reaffirming the government’s firm stance against terrorism and instructing security forces to intensify operations aimed at establishing lasting peace across Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting, held at Lok Bhavan in Jammu, focused on assessing the current security environment and refining strategies to counter militant threats in the Union Territory. Shah emphasized a policy of zero tolerance toward terrorism and called for decisive action against militants operating in the region, particularly those taking refuge in remote forested and mountainous areas of Jammu.
Senior Officials Present at Strategic Review
The review session brought together key civil and military leaders, reflecting the seriousness of the security assessment. Among those present were Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, White Knight Corps General Officer Commanding Lt Gen P K Mishra, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Border Security Force Director General Praveen Kumar, and Central Reserve Police Force Director General G P Singh. Several other senior officials from intelligence and security agencies also attended.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, agencies provided a detailed briefing on the overall security landscape, ongoing operations, and emerging threats. Particular attention was given to winter operations targeting militants who have sought shelter in upper reaches and dense forest areas during the colder months.
Focus on Ongoing Operations in Key Districts
Officials informed the Home Minister about recent counterterrorism efforts in districts such as Kishtwar and Udhampur. During these operations, three militants linked to Pakistan-based Jaish were neutralized, sources said. Security agencies highlighted the coordination between Army units, police, and paramilitary forces in carrying out these operations under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
The review also covered developments along the International Border and the Line of Control. Authorities presented updates on surveillance measures, infiltration attempts, and border management mechanisms designed to prevent the movement of militants from across the border.
Shah is understood to have commended the security forces for their sustained efforts while directing them to intensify operations to eliminate remaining militant elements. He called for dismantling not only active militant networks but also the Over Ground Workers and support structures that sustain what officials described as the broader terror ecosystem.
Strengthening Border Vigilance and Technology Use
Emphasizing the importance of prevention, the Home Minister instructed agencies to ensure that infiltration attempts are thwarted entirely. He stressed the need for a stronger counter-infiltration grid and greater use of advanced technology in surveillance and intelligence gathering.
Officials said Shah assured security agencies that the Centre would provide all necessary resources to achieve the goal of a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir. Enhanced vigilance along sensitive stretches of the border and improved coordination among various forces were highlighted as key priorities.
This meeting marked the second comprehensive security review chaired by Shah within a month, following a similar assessment held on January 8. The frequency of such meetings indicates continued monitoring of the security situation at the highest levels of the government.
Tribute to Fallen Soldiers
Following the review, the Home Minister met families of security personnel who lost their lives in terror-related incidents. Expressing solidarity with them, he said the country would always honour the courage and sacrifice of its martyrs.
The discussions and subsequent directives underline the government’s continued focus on counterterrorism operations, border security, and intelligence coordination as central pillars of its strategy in Jammu and Kashmir.
