RoadAccident – A 25-year-old delivery rider working with a leading food delivery platform lost his life in a late-night road accident in West Delhi after a speeding car allegedly rammed into his scooter.

Collision Reported in Subhash Nagar

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in the Subhash Nagar area of the national capital. According to police officials, the crash took place around 4:30 am when a car struck the two-wheeler from behind. The impact proved fatal for the rider, who died at the scene.

Officers from the local police station were alerted soon after the accident and reached the spot without delay. The victim’s body was later sent to the mortuary for postmortem examination as part of standard legal procedure.

PCR Call Prompted Immediate Response

Authorities said a Police Control Room call was first received at Tilak Nagar police station at approximately 3:26 am, informing them about an accident and a seriously injured person on Najafgarh Road, heading toward Rajouri Garden. A police team was dispatched to the location, where both the damaged scooter and the car involved in the collision were found.

By the time emergency responders assessed the situation, the rider had sustained critical injuries. He was transported to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Victim Identified as 25-Year-Old Resident

The deceased has been identified as Hem Shankar, 25, a resident of Raghubir Nagar in West Delhi. Police sources confirmed that he was working as a gig worker with food delivery company Zomato at the time of the accident.

Family members were informed shortly after his identity was established. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding his work shift or the specific delivery assignment he was undertaking when the crash occurred.

Eyewitness Account Raises Questions

An eyewitness present near the accident site told investigators that the car involved was a Hyundai Verna. According to the account, the vehicle hit the scooter from behind at high speed. The witness also alleged that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and attempted to leave the scene immediately after the crash.

Police officials stated that preliminary findings suggest the driver may have been intoxicated, though medical tests and further investigation are underway to confirm this.

Accused Driver Taken Into Custody

The driver of the car has been identified as Mohit Kumar, 27, a resident of Najafgarh. He is reportedly associated with civic contract work under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Police confirmed that he was detained at the scene and later formally taken into custody.

The vehicle involved in the accident has been seized for forensic examination. An FIR has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station under relevant sections of the law, and further legal proceedings are in progress.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Officials said statements from witnesses are being recorded and forensic reports will play a crucial role in determining the exact circumstances of the incident.

The tragic death of the young delivery worker has once again drawn attention to road safety concerns in Delhi, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when traffic enforcement may be limited. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken if drunken driving is confirmed.
