RajyaSabhaElection – Haryana Congress MLAs Shifted to Himachal Resort Before Poll
RajyaSabhaElection – Several legislators belonging to the Congress party from Haryana have reached a hill resort in Kufri, near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in the state. The group arrived late in the evening at a private resort located in Gallu area of New Kufri, roughly 25 kilometres from Shimla, under significant security arrangements.

Legislators Reach Resort Under Tight Security
According to officials, the Congress MLAs reached the resort around 9 pm. Security was strengthened in and around the property as the legislators were escorted to the location. Entry to the resort premises has been restricted, with local authorities allowing only authorised individuals inside.
Police personnel from Shimla district have been stationed near the resort to maintain security and prevent unnecessary movement around the area. Media access has also been limited as a precautionary measure.
Senior Party Leaders Accompany Delegation
The legislators were accompanied by several senior leaders of the party during their journey to Himachal Pradesh. Among those present were All India Congress Committee leader BK Hariprasad, who oversees party affairs in Haryana, and Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Rao Narender Singh.
Party sources indicated that the leadership remained closely involved in coordinating the movement and stay of the legislators. The arrangements were reportedly made in consultation with key figures within the state unit of the Congress.
Strategy Linked to Upcoming Rajya Sabha Voting
The development comes just days before Haryana is scheduled to vote for two Rajya Sabha seats on March 16. Political observers note that the movement of MLAs to a resort is part of a strategy commonly used by parties to keep their legislators together ahead of important votes.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced two candidates for the contest, including one nominee who is contesting with support from independent members. The election has therefore drawn significant political attention within the state.
Congress Cites Precautionary Measure
Sources within the Congress party said the decision to move the MLAs outside Haryana was taken as a precaution. The leadership reportedly wanted to ensure that all party legislators remain together ahead of the voting process.
The move is believed to have been planned under the guidance of senior Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who continues to play an important role in the party’s state strategy.
While party leaders have not publicly commented in detail, insiders suggested the step was taken to prevent any potential attempts to influence legislators before the election.
Rajya Sabha Elections Across Multiple States
The Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16 will determine representatives for 37 seats across ten states. Voting will take place during the day, and counting of votes is expected to begin at 5 pm on the same evening.
These elections are being conducted because the terms of several sitting members of the upper house are set to expire in April. The outgoing members represent states including Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana.
With multiple seats becoming vacant simultaneously, political parties across the country have intensified preparations to secure representation in the Council of States.
For Haryana in particular, the upcoming vote is being closely monitored as parties finalise their legislative support ahead of the polling day.
