Rajnath Singh : pays a visit to Bangladesh High Court and expresses sympathy on Khaleda Zia’s passing
Rajnath Singh: In order to offer his condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister and chairman of the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), Khaleda Zia, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh traveled to New Delhi on Thursday to visit the High Commission of Bangladesh.
Singh expressed his profound sadness and sent his condolences to the family of Khaleda Zia as well as the people of Bangladesh by signing the book of condolences.visited the Bangladeshi High Commission in New Delhi. expressed our deep sadness at the loss of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by signing the Condolence Book. “Her family and the people of Bangladesh are in our thoughts,” the defense minister wrote on X.
“Happy to welcome HE Rajnath Singh, Hon Indian Defence Minister at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi as he conveyed condolences of India and paid homage to former Bangladesh Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson (late) Khaleda Zia, in Delhi,” wrote Riaz Hamidullah, Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India, on X after Singh’s visit.
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar traveled to Dhaka earlier on Wednesday to attend the burial of Bangladesh’s first female prime minister, Khaleda Zia, on behalf of India. He expressed the sympathies of the Indian government to Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairperson of the BNP, about the death of his mother and former prime minister of Bangladesh.
The EAM said in a post on X that he met with Tarique Rahman when he arrived in Dhaka and gave him a private letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.expressed the Indian government’s and people’s sincere sympathies. expressed assurance that Begum Khaleda Zia’s principles and vision would direct the growth of our collaboration,” he said.
In the aftermath of a democratic transition after the next elections, EAM Jaishankar expressed confidence about deepening India-Bangladesh relations and praised Zia’s commitment to democracy.
Hamidullah shared pictures from the meeting with Tarique Rahman on X that “HE Dr S Jaishankar Hon. External Affairs Minister, in Dhaka, conveys condolences of the people and Govt of India as Bangladesh mourns passing of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, recognised her contribution to democracy and expressed optimism to strengthen India Bangladesh ties following democratic transition in Bangladesh thru the upcoming election (Feb 2026).”
After a protracted illness, Khaleda Zia, a three-time prime minister and longtime head of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, passed away early on Tuesday morning. She was eighty years old.
According to local media sources, she was buried at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon with full state honors next to her husband, Ziaur Rahman, the country’s former president.
