PM Modi: ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ will be joined by today to engage in heavenly chanting

PM Modi: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the current “Somnath Swabhiman Parv,” a lavish four-day event honoring Gujarat’s famous Somnath Temple’s tenacity since Mahmud of Ghazni attacked it for the first time in January 1026.

The celebration, which takes place from January 8 to 11, 2026, honors the temple’s periodic demolition and restoration as a symbol of India’s unwavering faith, pride in its culture, and spirit of civilization.

Additionally, it commemorates 75 years since Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel oversaw the historic reconstruction in 1951.

PM Modi characterized the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ as a potent representation of India’s spiritual heritage, observed with great fervor and devotion throughout the country in his post on X.

He said that he would arrive at Somnath on the evening of January 10 and have the honor of participating in the Omkar mantra’s heavenly chanting at the temple grounds at around 8 p.m.

Prime Minister Modi will lead the Shaurya Yatra, a ceremonial procession honoring the innumerable courageous sons and daughters of Mother India (also known as “Bharat Mata”), who gave their lives protecting the shrine during centuries of foreign invasions, on January 11 at approximately 9:45 a.m.

108 traditionally dressed riders will participate in a symbolic one-kilometer roadshow as part of the yatra, symbolizing bravery and unending sacrifice.

After the parade, at around 10:15 a.m., PM Modi will give prayers, do darshan and pooja at the sacred Jyotirlinga, and then speak at a public gathering as part of the Swabhiman Parv.

Highlights of the event include spiritual music nights, several programs highlighting national pride and tradition, and 72 hours of nonstop Omkar chanting by thousands of young priests and saints.

The Union government’s emphasis on conserving and honoring India’s rich cultural heritage is shown by PM Modi’s visit.

On Gujarat’s coast, the Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is a testament to unending faith that has inspired generations with its tale of revival.
