Six Delhi Police officers, two members of the Parliament Security Service, and a gardener were killed when five terrorists from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) attacked the Parliament complex on December 13, 2001. Security personnel neutralized all five terrorists during the assault.

On Saturday, India marks the 24th anniversary of the fatal attack.

In addition, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited the Parliament building to honor the victims of the terror assault.

Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Piyush Goyal, Jitendra Singh, and Arjun Ram Meghwal, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, and other lawmakers were among the prominent figures in attendance at the tribute ceremony.

Earlier on X, Home Minister Amit Shah stated: “Today is the day to once again remember the indomitable valour and courage of our security forces against terrorism, when in the year 2001, they thwarted with their spirit the cowardly terrorist attack on the temple of the world’s largest democracy, our Parliament House.”

“I honor the courageous members of the security forces who became martyrs while responding appropriately to the attackers. He said, “This country will always be grateful for the sacrifice and martyrdom of these valiant heroes.

“We pay heartfelt tribute to our brave soldiers who were martyred in the cowardly terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament on this day,” Priyanka Gandhi said in addition to honoring the fallen. The nation will always be grateful to these brave martyrs and their families for giving their life to protect the honor of the nation.”

Five JeM terrorists entered the Parliament compound on December 13, 2001, in a vehicle with fake Home Ministry and Parliament markings.

More than 100 people are thought to still be inside the building, despite the fact that the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha had been adjourned about 40 minutes prior to the incident. Among them were senior government officials and several members of Parliament, including the then-Home Minister L.K. Advani and the then-Minister of State for Defence Harin Pathak.

Armed with hand grenades, handguns, AK-47 rifles, and grenade launchers, the assailants broke through the security barrier around the legislative complex by using fictitious identification tags on their car. They carried hand grenades, handguns, AK-47 rifles, and grenade launchers.

The first security guard to see the terrorists and sound the alarm was Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Constable Kamlesh Kumari.

The assailants shot her, and she instantly passed away. Security forces also killed the other four terrorists during the gunfight, and when one of the shooters was shot dead, his suicide vest detonated.

Inside the facility, every minister and member of parliament made it out unscathed. The incident resulted in at least 17 injuries and nine fatalities.
