Kavita Shinde has been recognized as the accused. Police found stolen gold items in her hands after she was arrested, valued at around ₹10.25 lakh. Officials said that attempts are being made to retrieve the remaining jewelry after the judge remanded her to police custody.

Rashmi Pangshe, the complainant, is a Maharashtra Police Police Inspector who dwells with her daughter, age five, in the Police Inspector building of the Dadar Railway Police Colony. Kavita Shinde was brought in as an extra domestic helper by Monika, who was already employed at her house. Since January 2025, Kavita had been employed at the home on a regular basis; nevertheless, she left in November of the same year.

While receiving treatment for cancer, Rashmi Pangshe’s mother stayed with her and kept some of her gold jewelry at home. Following her mother’s passing in 2021, the jewelry was safely kept in a locker inside a cabinet.

When Pangshe’s father came to the house in June 2025, she showed him the jewelry and requested him to bring it, but he suggested that she store it securely at home. She didn’t see the ornaments again after that. The locker’s key then vanished. Despite a thorough search, it was not located. Kavita Shinde reportedly made evasive answers when questioned, however the topic was not investigated further because of job obligations.

Pangshe had a new key created to access the locker on January 3, 2026, after contacting a locksmith. When she opened it, she found that her late mother’s gold jewelry, valued at around ₹11 lakh, was gone. It was discovered that the theft took place between June 2025 and January 2026.

Pangshe filed a complaint at Matunga Police Station, suspecting Kavita Shinde, who had worked at the residence at that time until leaving in November. Police filed a theft case against the accused after confirming the accusation.

Kavita Shinde was arrested for interrogation during the inquiry. She first tried to deceive the cops and denied any participation. But after being questioned for a long time, she admitted to the crime and gave the police ₹10.25 lakh worth of stolen gold jewelry. She was later taken into custody in relation to the crime.
