Mass Dog Killing in Telangana: In Telangana, nine sarpanches from villages were charged for injecting stray dogs with poison. According to the news agency ANI, the Shyampet Police Station has filed a formal complaint against nine individuals, including the Shyampet sarpanch, for reportedly murdering 300 stray dogs in the villages of Shayampet and Arepally.
When police and veterinarians traveled to the villages on Sunday to do an autopsy on the buried bodies, the event became public knowledge. A Karimnagar district activist reported to Shayampet police that between January 6 and 8, two paid men gave deadly injections to hundreds of stray dogs in the Shayampet and Arepally gram panchayat areas.
The FIR claims that two individuals were recruited by the sarpanch personnel to use a toxic injection to murder the dogs. According to the legislation, police have filed a complaint under Section 11(1)(a)(l) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960. Investigations are still under progress.
