Manipur is now governed by the President (Article 356). President Murmu recently visited the war-torn state for two days on December 11 and 12. She said that the valleys and hills go well together during this tour. She also mentioned bringing about peace in Manipur. The Kuki tribe lives in the hills, while the Meitei population lives in the lowlands.

The President’s message of bringing about peace in the state is strengthened by the gathering of BJP MLAs from the Meitei and Kuki groups in Delhi. In Manipur, a number of BJP MLAs have also demanded the establishment of a government.

When Will Manipur’s President’s Rule End?

Manipur will remain under the President’s administration till February 2026. Previously, on August 13, 2025, the state’s President’s rule was extended. The Election Commission or Parliament must agree to any further expansions of the President’s authority in the state.
