In honor of World Meditation Day on Sunday, the experts emphasized the therapeutic value of meditation in the cutthroat world of today.

According to Prof. (Dr.) Kashinath Samagandi, Director of MDNIY, “between 60 and 70 percent of stress is occupational in nature and emphasizes the need to align body and mind through techniques prescribed in the Patanjala Yogasutra.”

Citing recent studies, he clarified that by stimulating the prefrontal cortex, which controls emotional reactions, Om chanting lowers activity in the amygdala, the brain’s center for fear and negative emotions.

The amygdala is significantly deactivated during loud Om chanting as compared to the resting state, according to an fMRI research.

He also referenced research from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in New Delhi, which showed that Yoga Nidra reduces stress and systemic inflammation by causing quantifiable changes in brain activity linked to deep relaxation and emotional control.

Notably, last year’s UN General Assembly declared December 21 to be World Meditation Day, confirming everyone’s right to the best possible level of physical and mental well-being.

The program is in line with the Ministry of Ayush’s continuous efforts to combine traditional Indian knowledge with contemporary lifestyle choices for a healthy community.

Swami Muktimayananda of the Ramakrishna Mission in New Delhi urged attendees to look inside for enduring serenity at the occasion.

“Self-awareness and the realization of one’s actual nature — Sat Chit Anand Swaroop — based on love and compassion are the first steps towards the calming mental fluctuations,” he said.

In order to combat ego, envy, and unmet cravings that disrupt inner peace, Buddha also emphasized commitment to Yama and Niyama.

Prominent academics, yoga practitioners, and aficionados came together for specialized meditation sessions throughout the event.

In order to provide participants useful skills to improve their mental and emotional resilience, the program also included hands-on demonstrations of several meditation methods.
