Maharashtra: NIA Chief Sadanand Date’s immediate return to is approved by the ACC
Maharashtra: Sadanand Vasant Date, the head of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and a senior IPS officer, was allowed on Monday by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) to return immediately to his native cadre, Maharashtra. Date is seen to be the most qualified candidate for the position, since the incumbent Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla’s term expires on December 31. Notably, the elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are set for January, which makes this action crucial from the standpoint of the state’s security and law and order leadership.

The Central Government’s decree states that the Ministry of Home Affairs’ recommendation has been accepted, limiting Sadanand Date’s deputation and returning him to his parent cadre. The Maharashtra government has sent a plea for his repatriation to the state to the Home Ministry. According to sources, Date could be named the state’s police head for a two-year term ending in December 2027.
Sadanand Vasant Date, an IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre who was born in 1990, is an inspiration and an example of hardship. Date was raised in a humble household and used newspaper distribution to pay for his schooling. He put discipline and education first despite having little money, and he eventually joined the Indian Police Service. For aspiring police officers, his story serves as an inspiration.
