KumbhMela – Dhami Reviews Haridwar Works for 2027 Event
KumbhMela – Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday visited Haridwar to assess ongoing preparations for the Kumbh Mela scheduled in 2027. During his visit to the Kumbh Mela Control Building, he initiated 34 major infrastructure projects sanctioned by the state government, marking a significant step in the long-term planning for the religious gathering.

Foundation Laid for Key Infrastructure Projects
At the Control and Command Centre in Haridwar, the Chief Minister formally launched projects estimated to cost Rs 234.55 crore. Officials said these initiatives are designed not only to facilitate the smooth conduct of Kumbh Mela-2027 but also to provide permanent civic improvements for the city.
The projects focus on strengthening urban infrastructure, enhancing public utilities, and improving basic amenities to manage the expected influx of pilgrims. Authorities believe that these developments will leave a lasting impact on Haridwar beyond the religious congregation.
Speaking to reporters, Dhami emphasized the importance of timely execution. He noted that preparations are already in motion and will continue at a steady pace to avoid last-minute challenges.
Early Planning for Chardham Yatra
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s proactive approach toward the upcoming Chardham Yatra. He stated that planning for the 2026 pilgrimage began soon after the conclusion of the 2025 yatra. Multiple review meetings have been conducted, and consultations with stakeholders are ongoing to gather practical suggestions.
According to Dhami, the Char Dham temple gates are expected to open in April next year, coinciding with school holidays, a period that traditionally sees increased pilgrim turnout. He said arrangements are being streamlined to ensure that visitors have a safe and comfortable experience.
Officials confirmed that coordination meetings between departments are being held regularly to address logistical concerns, including traffic flow, accommodation, and emergency services.
Call for Inter-Department Coordination
During the review session for Kumbh Mela-2027, Dhami reiterated the need for collective responsibility among government departments. He directed officials to complete all assigned works within stipulated timelines and to maintain close coordination to prevent operational gaps.
He underlined that the scale of the Kumbh demands meticulous planning, as the event draws millions of devotees from across India and abroad. Proper crowd management, sanitation facilities, medical services, and transport arrangements are among the top priorities outlined by the administration.
The Chief Minister further stated that the foundation-laying ceremony signals the state’s commitment to executing projects without delay. He urged departments to adopt a mission-mode approach to ensure readiness well before the event.
Railway and On-Ground Preparations Intensified
With a significant number of pilgrims expected to travel by train, the Mela administration has stepped up efforts to strengthen railway infrastructure in and around Haridwar. Special focus is being placed on passenger convenience, security measures, and efficient crowd movement at railway stations.
Mela Officer Sonika, along with senior officials from the administration and railway authorities, conducted a detailed inspection of Haridwar Railway Station. The review covered proposed arrangements, including additional waiting areas, improved signage, and crowd control mechanisms.
Authorities are also examining the need for temporary facilities to handle peak-hour congestion during the Kumbh period. Coordination between the Railways and state agencies is being reinforced to ensure seamless operations during the large-scale gathering.
Officials said that preparations are being approached with a long-term perspective, aiming to create infrastructure that will continue to benefit residents and visitors even after the Kumbh concludes.
The 2027 Kumbh Mela is expected to be one of the largest religious congregations in the country, and the state government has signaled its intent to deliver a well-organized and secure event through early planning and sustained oversight.
