More than thirty MLAs attended the event, which was hosted by senior minister Satish Jarkiholi in a major hotel, according to reports quoted by news agency PTI. Others acknowledged that important political issues were also addressed at the meeting, while others downplayed the occasion as a typical social gathering during the Assembly’s winter session.

Regarding the dinner event, what did the minister say?
“There’s nothing special about it,” said Jarkiholi, who was regarded as Siddaramaiah’s close aide. It’s usual to host meals for like-minded individuals. These kinds of encounters take place. Yesterday we held a meeting. There wasn’t much political conversation, and it wasn’t really noteworthy.” “Similar meetings have occurred before,” he continued.

Who Attended the Meeting?
MLA KN Rajanna, a former minister who is seen as close to the Chief Minister, and Siddaramaiah’s son, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, were among those in attendance, according to PTI. Sources claim that Siddaramaiah’s poor health prevented him from attending the dinner.

Rajanna, on the other hand, implied that the encounter was political. “Yes,” he responded, “yesterday night Satish Jarkiholi had a dinner gathering. It wasn’t simply SC and ST MLAs, as was stated. All MLAs who shared his views were invited. I went too. There was a lot of political talk. Details may be obtained from Jarkiholi himself. Rajanna said, “What else would we meet for?” when asked whether politics was mentioned. Would we just have dinner together? Discussions are inevitable when people get together. There are several goals.

The event comes after another high-profile gathering that took place a week earlier on the outskirts of Belagavi, when more than thirty Congress MLAs, including ministers, had supper with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Why are people talking about the dinner party?
This latest event stokes rumors of a possible leadership transition as the Congress administration finished the first half of its five-year term on November 20. In what is currently perceived as an effort to diffuse the leadership dispute, Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar recently had breakfast at each other’s homes at the direction of the party high command, despite persistent reports of a power-sharing agreement that will last until 2023.
