Infrastructure – Mumbai Metro 4 Pillar Collapse Leaves One Dead, Three Injured
Infrastructure – A tragic accident at an under-construction site of Mumbai Metro Line 4 claimed one life and left three others seriously injured on Saturday afternoon in Mulund West. The incident occurred when a portion of a concrete slab attached to a metro pillar gave way, falling onto vehicles passing along the busy LBS Marg.

Slab Collapse Triggers Emergency Response
According to officials, the collapse took place around 12:20 pm near the Johnson and Johnson Garden area, a stretch known for heavy traffic movement throughout the day. A section of the concrete slab, estimated to measure roughly six feet by four feet, suddenly detached from the elevated structure and crashed onto the road below.
An auto-rickshaw in motion and a nearby car were trapped under the debris. Bystanders quickly alerted authorities, and teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade and local police rushed to the site. Rescue workers worked carefully to remove the fallen slab and extricate those caught beneath it.
Emergency personnel managed to pull out the injured victims and arranged immediate medical transport. The swift response helped prevent further complications at the crowded location.
Victims Shifted to Hospital for Treatment
All four injured individuals were taken to Upasani Multispeciality Hospital for urgent medical care. Doctors at the facility confirmed that one of the victims, identified as Ramdhan Yadav, was declared dead upon arrival.
Hospital authorities reported that Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav, 45, sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. His condition remains serious and he is under close medical observation.
Two others, Mahendra Pratap Yadav, 52, and Deepa Ruhiya, 40, suffered injuries but are said to be stable. Both are receiving treatment and are being monitored by medical staff.
Busy Roadway Disrupted
The accident briefly disrupted traffic movement along LBS Marg, one of the key arterial roads connecting eastern suburbs of Mumbai. Police cordoned off the affected section to facilitate rescue operations and ensure public safety.
Commuters experienced delays as authorities cleared the debris and inspected the surrounding structure for any additional risks. Traffic flow was gradually restored after safety checks were completed.
Questions Around Construction Safety
The partial collapse has raised concerns about construction safety at major infrastructure projects in the city. Mumbai Metro Line 4, which aims to improve connectivity between Wadala and Kasarvadavali, is one of several large-scale urban transport initiatives currently underway.
Officials have indicated that a technical review will be conducted to determine the cause of the slab failure. Structural engineers are expected to examine whether the collapse resulted from material weakness, installation error, or other site-related factors.
Authorities have not yet released details regarding possible accountability or compensation measures. However, sources confirmed that a formal inquiry has been initiated.
Focus on Public Safety
The incident underscores the risks associated with ongoing construction in densely populated urban areas. With metro expansion projects progressing across multiple corridors, ensuring adherence to safety standards remains critical.
Local authorities have assured that further inspections will be carried out at the site to prevent similar incidents. Construction work in the immediate vicinity may remain suspended until a detailed assessment is completed.
For now, the focus remains on the condition of the injured and the findings of the official investigation. The unfortunate event has renewed calls for stricter monitoring of infrastructure projects to safeguard both workers and commuters.
