IllegalMining – Uttarakhand Suspends Entire Iqbalpur Police Outpost Staff After Audio Clip Row
IllegalMining – Authorities in Uttarakhand have taken decisive disciplinary action after an audio recording allegedly linked to illegal mining activities surfaced in Haridwar district. Acting under the state government’s declared zero-tolerance approach toward corruption and law and order violations, the entire police team stationed at the Iqbalpur police outpost has been suspended.

The decision was implemented following instructions from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, according to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office. The suspension came into effect immediately after questions were raised regarding the conduct of police personnel connected to the incident.
Suspensions Ordered After Suspicious Role of Police Personnel
Officials reported that the controversy began after an audio clip related to illegal mining activities in the Iqbalpur area came to light. Preliminary assessments suggested that the involvement of certain police personnel posted at the outpost appeared questionable.
Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Haridwar ordered the suspension of six members of the outpost staff, including the officer in charge.
Those suspended include Sub-Inspector Naveen Singh Chauhan, who was serving as the in-charge of the Iqbalpur police outpost. Along with him, Head Constables Virendra Sharma and Harendra have also been suspended. The disciplinary action also applies to Constables Vipin Kumar, Devesh Singh, and Pradeep.
Authorities said the move was necessary to ensure a transparent and unbiased investigation into the matter.
Investigation Assigned to Senior Police Official
Following the suspensions, a detailed probe has been initiated to determine whether any police officials were directly or indirectly linked to illegal mining operations in the region.
The investigation has been assigned to the Superintendent of Police (Rural), who will examine the audio recording and other available evidence to establish the facts surrounding the case.
Officials stated that the inquiry will focus on verifying the authenticity of the audio clip, identifying the individuals involved, and determining whether there was any misuse of authority or negligence in the enforcement of mining regulations.
Government Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reiterated that the state government will not tolerate illegal mining, corruption, or administrative irregularities under any circumstances.
According to the statement, the Chief Minister emphasized that personnel responsible for maintaining law and order must adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct. If any officer is found neglecting duty or engaging in activities that compromise the integrity of the system, strict disciplinary and legal measures will follow.
He also directed officials to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly and without delay. Authorities have been instructed to take firm legal action against anyone found guilty after the inquiry concludes.
Earlier Police Action in Dehradun Murder Case
In a separate development earlier this year, the Dehradun Police, working alongside the Special Task Force, arrested two individuals in connection with the killing of Vikram Sharma, a history-sheeter originally from Jharkhand.
The incident took place on February 13 when Sharma was shot by unidentified motorcycle-borne attackers on Rajpur Road near the Silver City Mall area in Dehradun.
Police officials stated that the two arrested suspects were not the shooters themselves but allegedly played a role in supporting the attackers. Investigators believe the accused helped provide logistical assistance and financial support to those involved in carrying out the crime.
The arrests were made on February 23 following coordinated efforts by local police and the Special Task Force.
Focus on Strengthening Law Enforcement
Authorities say the recent disciplinary action in Haridwar and the arrests in the Dehradun murder investigation reflect the government’s effort to strengthen law enforcement and maintain public confidence in policing institutions.
Officials added that cases involving illegal mining and organized criminal activities are being closely monitored, and investigations will continue to ensure accountability and adherence to legal procedures across the state.
