The comprehensive poll will be conducted over 12 days starting in the New Year with the goal of assessing the scope and efficacy of different government activities.

In order to gather household-level data, 55,706 members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) will execute the exercise by dispersing across both urban and rural areas. The Department of Public (Mudhalvarin Mugavari) is in charge of the effort, which is anticipated to provide a thorough picture of how government programs are really reaching recipients.

Reeta Harish Thakkar, Secretary to the Department, issued a government order stating that the survey would use beneficiary databases kept up to date by the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) to evaluate the effect and delivery of welfare programs.

To improve policy implementation and find service delivery gaps, the gathered data will subsequently be analyzed.

To supervise the procedure, a high-level monitoring committee has been established. The committee consists of the Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women (TNCDW), the Chief Executive Officer of TNeGA, the Principal Secretary of the Information Technology Department, and the Additional Chief Secretaries of the Rural Development and Revenue Departments.

According to government statistics, there are 2.26 crore ration cards in Tamil Nadu, with 1.37 crore in rural areas and 89.03 lakh in urban areas. One or more welfare payments are now being received by 1.57 crore of these families.

It is anticipated that 1.90 crore homes in the state would be covered by the study. For the exercise, the government has set out Rs 43.52 crore, of which Rs 21 crore is designated for the TNCDW. For the 12-day survey period, each SHG member would be paid Rs 6,000 and allocated to 30 families daily.

In addition to using physical forms and a specialized mobile application created by TNeGA, surveyors will be given identification cards and used to gather data.

Ahead of future policy choices, officials said the data would assist the government in evaluating ground-level results, streamlining welfare delivery, and enhancing the efficacy of social protection programs.
