Governance – Modi Accuses Congress of Creating Panic Amid Global Conflicts

Governance – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Union government is taking steps to shield citizens from the economic and social effects of ongoing global conflicts. Speaking at a public gathering in Silchar, Assam, he also criticised the opposition Congress party, accusing it of spreading fear among the public instead of acting responsibly during challenging times.

Modi accuses congress panic politics

Government Focus on Shielding Citizens From Global Turmoil

Addressing the crowd in the Barak Valley region, the prime minister said that international tensions and wars have created uncertainties across the world. He stressed that the Centre is working to ensure such developments do not adversely affect people in India.

According to Modi, the government’s priority is to safeguard livelihoods, maintain economic stability, and reduce disruptions caused by global crises. He added that during such circumstances, political parties should work together in the national interest rather than contribute to public anxiety.

Modi alleged that the Congress party had failed to play a constructive role and instead attempted to spread panic among citizens. He said political criticism should be responsible and focused on solutions rather than creating confusion or fear among people.

Allegations Against Congress Over Development of Northeast

During his speech, Modi also accused Congress of neglecting the northeastern region for decades when it was in power. He claimed that development in many parts of the Northeast, including the Barak Valley, remained limited for years.

According to the prime minister, Congress governments did not prioritise infrastructure or economic opportunities in the region. He argued that the present administration is working to address long-standing gaps and accelerate development projects.

Modi said the current government has adopted a policy of focusing on regions that historically remained outside the mainstream of economic growth. He added that improved connectivity, infrastructure investment, and industrial initiatives are part of broader efforts to transform the region.

Historical Border Decisions and Impact on Barak Valley

The prime minister also referred to decisions taken during the time of Independence, alleging that the drawing of international borders affected the economic prospects of the Barak Valley.

He said the region once functioned as a significant centre of trade and commerce but lost strategic access to the sea after the borders were established. According to Modi, this change weakened the region’s traditional economic networks and reduced its role as an industrial hub.

Modi argued that although Congress governments remained in power for many years after Independence, the region did not witness adequate development. He claimed that the current government is attempting to revive the economic potential of the Barak Valley through infrastructure expansion and development initiatives.

Focus on Opportunities for Young People

The prime minister also addressed the issue of youth development in Assam. He accused Congress of misguiding young people in the past and claimed that some political decisions had pushed sections of youth toward violence and extremism.

In contrast, Modi said the present government is focused on creating opportunities for young people through employment, education, and entrepreneurship initiatives. He emphasised that policies are aimed at ensuring that young citizens can participate in economic growth rather than being drawn into conflict.

He added that development programmes in the state are designed to strengthen industries, improve connectivity, and attract investment that could generate new jobs.

BJP’s Development Approach

Modi concluded his address by outlining the governing philosophy of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said the party aims to prioritise regions and communities that were previously overlooked in development efforts.

According to him, the government’s focus is on turning previously neglected areas into centres of growth and opportunity. Modi said the administration’s goal is to ensure that progress reaches every part of the country, particularly those that have historically lagged behind.

He added that development-driven governance remains the guiding principle of the government’s policies and programmes.
