Four : people, including two visiting tourists, lost their lives in separate incidents reported across the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday, while ten others were injured after a residential building collapsed in Bandipora district, officials confirmed. Authorities said investigations and medico-legal procedures are underway in all cases to establish the precise causes.

Tourist Death Reported Near Dal Lake
One of the deceased tourists was brought in an unconscious state to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar from a hotel located near Dal Lake. Medical staff examined him upon arrival and declared him dead. Officials identified the victim as 41-year-old Taranjit Singh from Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary information suggests he fell ill while staying at the hotel, though the exact reason for his death is yet to be confirmed.
Second Tourist Declared Dead at SKIMS Soura
In a separate incident, another male tourist was referred from a medical facility in Bemina to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Soura after reportedly losing consciousness. Doctors at SKIMS declared him dead shortly after arrival. The deceased was identified as Rajesh Ramchandar Mahindrakar, a resident of Maharashtra, who had been staying at a hotel in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar. Officials said medico-legal formalities have been initiated to determine the circumstances leading to his death.
CRPF Personnel Dies in Srinagar
A Central Reserve Police Force personnel died during the intervening night in Srinagar’s HMT area. Officials said the deceased, identified as Head Constable Hari Nath of the 44 Battalion, had complained of discomfort before being found unresponsive in his room. Initial observations indicate a suspected heart attack, though authorities emphasized that all mandatory medical and legal procedures are being followed to establish the exact cause.
Man Dies of Suspected Suffocation in Kulgam
Another fatal incident was reported from Kulgam district, where a 32-year-old man died of suspected suffocation after sleeping inside his car with the heater running. Officials said the man had parked his vehicle outside the district hospital, where his wife was admitted, and chose to stay inside the car overnight to keep warm. Prolonged use of the heater in the closed vehicle is believed to have caused oxygen depletion. He was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as Mashooq Ahmad Mir, a resident of the Kulpora area of Kulgam. His body has been sent for medico-legal examination.
House Collapse Injures Ten in Bandipora
In Bandipora district, ten people were injured after a double-storeyed residential house collapsed during a condolence gathering in Chandergir village of the Hajin area. Officials said a large number of mourners had assembled at the house following the death of its owner. Preliminary assessments indicate that the structure may not have withstood the excessive load caused by the gathering, leading to its sudden collapse.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Response
The collapse caused panic among those present, with several individuals getting trapped under the debris. Local residents and emergency teams rushed to the site and managed to rescue the injured. According to officials, five of the injured were shifted to a health centre in Hajin, while the remaining five were taken to a hospital in Safapora. All injured persons are reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of the building collapse and initiated an investigation to determine whether structural weaknesses or other factors contributed to the incident. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry. Officials reiterated the importance of following safety norms, especially during large gatherings, to prevent such incidents in the future.
