Fire Reported Near Colaba Waterfront

According to initial information shared by authorities, the blaze was reported around 10:25 pm within the dockyard premises in Colaba, a short distance from the Gateway of India. The affected site was identified as one of the waste stockyards located inside the high-security naval facility.

The fire was noticed by personnel on duty, following which naval fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene. Thick smoke rising from the dockyard area was visible from parts of south Mumbai, drawing attention from residents and passersby.

Swift Action by Naval Fire Teams

In an official statement, the Navy said its in-house firefighting units acted promptly to contain the blaze. The flames were brought under control without the need for assistance from external fire services, indicating that the situation was managed within the dockyard premises.

Authorities emphasized that the response teams worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to other operational sections of the facility. The dockyard houses critical naval infrastructure, making rapid containment crucial.

“No casualty has been reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated,” the statement added.

Investigation Underway to Determine Cause

While the immediate threat has been neutralized, officials have begun an inquiry to determine what triggered the fire. At this stage, no preliminary cause has been officially disclosed.

Fire incidents in waste storage zones can sometimes be linked to combustible materials, but investigators are expected to examine all possible factors before drawing conclusions. The Navy has not indicated any suspicion of foul play.

Videos Circulate on Social Media

Shortly after the fire was reported, individuals in the surrounding Colaba area recorded videos showing flames and smoke rising from inside the dockyard. Several of these clips were shared across social media platforms, attracting public attention.

Despite the visual intensity seen in some of the videos, officials reiterated that the situation was brought under control efficiently and without injuries. There was no immediate report of damage to key naval assets or disruption to operations.

Strategic Location Draws Public Attention

The Naval Dockyard in Mumbai is located in close proximity to the Gateway of India, one of the city’s most recognized landmarks and a major tourist attraction. Because of its central location along the waterfront, any visible incident in the area tends to draw swift public and media interest.

Security protocols remain in place around the dockyard, and access to the facility is restricted. Authorities have not reported any impact on civilian areas nearby.

No Impact on Naval Operations Reported

Officials indicated that routine activities within the dockyard were not significantly affected following the incident. Fire safety mechanisms and internal emergency procedures were activated immediately after the blaze was detected.

Further updates are expected once the investigation into the cause of the fire is completed. For now, authorities have confirmed that the situation is stable and under control.
