Farmers – PM-Kisan 22nd Installment to Reach Over 9.3 Crore Families Friday
Farmers – The Government of India is set to release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on Friday, providing financial assistance to millions of farming households across the country. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed that the latest installment will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally launch the transfer during an event in Guwahati, Assam. Through the Direct Benefit Transfer system, the government will deposit more than Rs 18,640 crore into the accounts of over 9.32 crore farmer families nationwide.
Government Continues Direct Income Support for Farmers
The PM-Kisan programme remains one of the central government’s key initiatives aimed at strengthening the financial security of farmers. According to the agriculture minister, the release of the latest installment demonstrates the government’s continued focus on supporting the country’s farming community, often referred to as the nation’s food providers.
Introduced in February 2019, the scheme was designed to provide direct income support to small and marginal farmers. Since its launch, a substantial amount of financial assistance has been transferred to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer system.
Total Financial Assistance Crosses Major Milestone
Officials noted that the government has already transferred more than Rs 4.09 lakh crore to farmers under the scheme over the past several years. With the release of the upcoming installment, the total amount disbursed is expected to cross Rs 4.27 lakh crore.
This steady financial support has become an important component of rural welfare policy. By ensuring funds are sent directly to bank accounts, the programme aims to maintain transparency and minimize delays in assistance reaching farmers.
Financial Support Provided in Three Annual Installments
Under the PM-Kisan scheme, eligible farmer families receive financial support of Rs 6,000 each year. The assistance is distributed in three equal installments and credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
This financial aid is intended to help farmers manage the costs associated with agricultural activities. Many beneficiaries use the funds to purchase essential farming inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other materials required during the cropping cycle.
Beyond agricultural use, the financial assistance can also support everyday household needs. Families often allocate the funds toward education expenses, healthcare, and other important requirements in rural households.
Women Farmers Also Among Key Beneficiaries
The agriculture ministry highlighted that women farmers will also benefit significantly from the upcoming installment. According to official estimates, more than 2.15 crore women farmers are expected to receive financial assistance under the latest payment cycle.
Government representatives have emphasized that empowering women involved in agriculture is an important part of strengthening rural economies. By ensuring that women farmers are included as beneficiaries, the scheme contributes to improving financial stability within rural families.
Impact on Rural Economy and Agricultural Investment
The minister stated that several independent studies have evaluated the impact of the PM-Kisan programme on the rural economy. These assessments suggest that direct income transfers have helped reduce farmers’ dependence on informal credit and short-term loans.
Access to regular financial support has also encouraged some farmers to increase investment in their agricultural activities. With predictable income assistance, farmers are better able to plan seasonal spending related to crop production.
Officials believe that such measures can contribute to long-term improvements in agricultural productivity while also supporting rural household incomes. As the scheme continues, the government expects it to remain an important tool for providing stability to farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector
