Gunfire Inside Juvenile Facility

The incident occurred at the Juvenile Observation Home in the RS Pura area of Jammu at approximately 5:05 pm, according to police officials. Sources said the three detainees reportedly fired at two policemen stationed within the facility before fleeing the premises amid the chaos.

Both injured officers were identified as Vinay Kumar and Praveen Kumar. They were initially taken to a nearby health centre for first aid and later shifted to Government Medical College Jammu for advanced medical care. Officials described their condition as stable, though they continue to receive treatment.

Identities of the Escapees Confirmed

Authorities confirmed that two of the escaped detainees are Pakistani nationals. They have been identified as Ahsan Anwar and Mohammad Sanaullah. The third individual, Karanjit Singh, also known as Gugga, is a resident of RS Pura in Jammu.

Law enforcement agencies have not disclosed further details about the cases in which the detainees were being held, citing the ongoing investigation.

Massive Search Operation Launched

In response to the jailbreak, police and paramilitary forces quickly cordoned off the surrounding areas. Senior police officials visited the facility shortly after the incident to assess the situation and review security arrangements.

A widespread search operation is currently underway across Jammu and nearby regions. Temporary checkpoints have been established on major roads and entry points. Vehicles are being thoroughly inspected, and commuters are required to present identification documents for verification.

Security personnel are also conducting searches in adjoining localities to trace the escapees. Officials indicated that intelligence inputs are being monitored closely to prevent the detainees from moving beyond the district.

Probe Into Security Lapses

Alongside the search operation, authorities have initiated an internal investigation to understand how firearms entered the juvenile home. The presence of weapons inside a correctional institution has raised serious concerns regarding possible security lapses.

Police sources stated that the inquiry will examine who facilitated the entry of the firearms and whether any external assistance or internal negligence was involved. “It will be thoroughly investigated how the firearms reached the juvenile home, who was responsible, and under whose direction this occurred,” an official source said.

The findings of the investigation are expected to determine accountability and lead to corrective measures to strengthen security protocols in such facilities.

Heightened Vigil Across the Region

The jailbreak has prompted heightened vigilance across Jammu, particularly in the RS Pura belt, which lies close to the international border. Security agencies are coordinating closely to prevent any cross-border movement.

Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information that could assist in locating the fugitives. Citizens have been advised to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station immediately.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the challenges faced by correctional institutions in maintaining security and preventing the smuggling of prohibited items. Officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to apprehend the escapees at the earliest and to review security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
