Scientific Assessment Presented in Dehradun

At a meeting held in Dehradun on Thursday, experts from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) shared findings from a detailed study conducted to evaluate environmental and ecosystem balance in areas affected by construction activities linked to the Badrinath corridor initiative. The presentation was made before Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, who emphasized the growing relevance of scientific input in policymaking.

Bardhan noted that in a mountain state like Uttarakhand, development cannot be separated from ecological responsibility. He said scientific evaluations must guide major infrastructure projects, particularly those in fragile terrains. According to officials present, he directed departments to ensure that such studies are applied wherever necessary and that survey findings are independently verified when required.

The Badrinath Corridor Development Project aims to improve facilities and connectivity for pilgrims and visitors traveling to the revered Himalayan shrine. However, authorities have acknowledged that the project’s success depends on balancing construction with environmental safeguards.

Military Leadership Meets Chief Minister

In a separate engagement on the same day, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence. The courtesy visit focused on matters of mutual interest, though specific details of the discussion were not disclosed.

The meeting comes amid continued coordination between civil administration and defense authorities in Uttarakhand, a state that shares sensitive international borders and hosts key military installations.

Development Projects Launched in Tehri Garhwal

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami later traveled to Tehri Garhwal, where he presided over inauguration and foundation-laying ceremonies for multiple development schemes. The projects, valued at Rs 41.21 crore, are aimed at strengthening infrastructure in Ghansali and nearby areas.

According to government officials, three completed works worth Rs 13.43 crore were formally inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for five new initiatives amounting to Rs 27.78 crore. These projects span improvements in local infrastructure and public services.

A significant highlight of the event was the groundwork ceremony for upgrading the Primary Health Centre in Pilkhi into a Community Health Centre. The upgrade is expected to enhance medical facilities for residents in the surrounding hill communities. During the programme, the Chief Minister also recognized Krishna Gairola and his family for donating land to support the hospital expansion.

Focus on Timely Completion and Basic Services

Addressing the gathering, Dhami stressed that projects announced by the government must be executed within stipulated timelines. He said the administration would closely monitor progress to prevent unnecessary delays between foundation-laying and inauguration.

The Chief Minister reiterated that improving roads, healthcare services, and educational infrastructure in remote and hilly regions remains a key priority. He added that strong administrative commitment can help overcome resource constraints, particularly in geographically challenging areas.

Officials said the government’s broader strategy involves strengthening essential services while promoting sustainable development practices in mountainous districts.

Meeting with Governor at Lok Bhavan

Earlier in the day, Dhami also met Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) at Lok Bhavan. The two leaders discussed ongoing development programmes across the state and reviewed other contemporary matters related to governance.

While no official statement detailing the discussions was released, sources indicated that infrastructure expansion, public welfare initiatives, and administrative coordination were among the topics reviewed during the meeting.

The series of engagements on Thursday reflected the state government’s parallel focus on environmental oversight, infrastructure development, healthcare expansion, and institutional coordination as Uttarakhand continues to navigate growth in ecologically sensitive terrain.
