DelhiCrime – Two Suspects Held After Police Encounter in Rohini Murder Case
DelhiCrime – Delhi Police have arrested two additional suspects allegedly involved in the killing of a businessman in the Bawana industrial area earlier this year. The arrests followed a brief exchange of gunfire between the suspects and police officers in Rohini, officials confirmed on Tuesday. With these latest detentions, the total number of individuals taken into custody in connection with the case has increased to seven.

Arrests Made After Intelligence Tip-Off
According to police officials, the two men arrested have been identified as Mohammad Irfan, 40, a resident of Chand Bagh in Delhi, and Aishwary Panday, 37, who lives in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Investigators had been tracking their movements after receiving information suggesting they were actively evading arrest following the February shooting.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams set up surveillance and laid a trap in the Shahbad Dairy area of outer Delhi. Officers stationed in the area soon spotted the suspects and attempted to intercept them. Authorities said the situation quickly escalated when the accused allegedly opened fire at the police personnel.
Exchange of Fire During Police Operation
Police officials stated that the suspects fired several rounds toward the officers in an attempt to escape. In response, the police team returned fire in what authorities described as an act of self-defence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said the suspects fired six rounds at the police team during the confrontation. Officers retaliated with five rounds before successfully overpowering and arresting both men. No police personnel were injured during the operation.
Following their arrest, the suspects were taken into custody and are currently being questioned as investigators attempt to determine their exact role in the murder conspiracy.
Businessman Shot Dead in Bawana Industrial Area
The case relates to the killing of Vaibhav Gandhi, a businessman who was shot dead on February 9 in the Bawana DSIIDC Sector-4 industrial zone. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. when Gandhi was inside or near his vehicle in the area.
Investigators said the attackers approached Gandhi’s car and opened fire at close range. After the shooting, the assailants reportedly fled the scene carrying bags that contained the victim’s laptop, mobile phone and important documents.
During the initial investigation, police discovered that a large sum of money — approximately ₹1 crore in cash — was still inside the vehicle. Authorities are examining whether robbery, business rivalry or another motive may have been behind the attack.
Earlier Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Before the latest arrests, police had already detained five individuals believed to be connected to the case during earlier operations conducted last month. Officials said the investigation has involved multiple police units working to identify all members of the group responsible for the crime.
Investigators are now analyzing the role of each suspect and reviewing evidence gathered from electronic devices, financial records and witness statements. Authorities believe the arrests may help uncover additional details about the planning and execution of the attack.
Police Continue Efforts to Trace Remaining Links
Law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation is still ongoing and that further arrests have not been ruled out. Police teams are continuing to track potential associates who may have assisted the attackers either before or after the crime.
Authorities also said forensic evidence and digital data collected during the investigation are being examined to strengthen the case against the accused.
Officials emphasized that the arrests represent significant progress in the investigation and reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the killing are brought to justice through legal proceedings.
