Cybersecurity – PM Modi Warns Against Rising Digital Fraud Threats
Cybersecurity- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday used his monthly radio address to caution citizens about the growing risks of digital financial fraud and so-called “digital arrest” scams. Speaking during the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, he urged people to exercise greater care while sharing personal information online and stressed the need for basic cyber hygiene to safeguard savings.

Call for Vigilance Against Online Scams
Referring to recent cases of online fraud, the Prime Minister said scammers are increasingly targeting ordinary citizens, with senior citizens often suffering the most serious losses. He noted that many families have seen their lifelong savings vanish due to deceptive calls and fraudulent digital schemes.
Modi advised people to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) or re-KYC processes only through official bank branches, verified banking applications, or authorised digital platforms. He cautioned against responding to unsolicited calls or messages claiming to be from government officials or bank representatives.
“Never disclose your OTP, Aadhaar details, or bank account information to unknown individuals,” he said, adding that regularly updating passwords should become a habit. Comparing password updates to seasonal changes in clothing, he suggested that citizens treat password security as a routine practice.
Misleading Calls and Financial Deception
The Prime Minister pointed out that fraudsters often impersonate senior officials to create a sense of urgency and authority. According to him, scammers typically claim to hold high-ranking positions and pressure individuals into revealing sensitive data. Such tactics, he said, can easily mislead unsuspecting people.
He also addressed concerns related to repeated KYC update requests. Many customers, he explained, feel confused when asked to re-submit documents despite having completed the process earlier. However, he clarified that these measures are part of banking security protocols designed to protect funds.
With pensions, subsidies, insurance benefits, and UPI transactions now closely linked to bank accounts, he underlined the importance of maintaining updated and secure banking records.
India’s Growing Influence in Artificial Intelligence
Turning to technological developments, Modi spoke about India’s progress in artificial intelligence. He described the recent AI Impact Summit as a significant milestone that could shape global conversations on the responsible and innovative use of AI in the coming years.
The Prime Minister said international leaders have shown strong interest in how India is applying artificial intelligence to preserve ancient manuscripts, scriptures, and traditional knowledge. By using advanced digital tools, the country is making historical texts accessible to younger generations while safeguarding cultural heritage.
He suggested that India’s approach demonstrates how emerging technologies can be blended with centuries-old wisdom to create modern solutions.
Indian-Origin Players Shine Globally
Modi also acknowledged the achievements of players of Indian origin representing different nations in international cricket tournaments, particularly the ongoing T20 World Cup. He said their performances have brought recognition not only to the countries they represent but also to their Indian roots.
Rajaji Utsav at Rashtrapati Bhavan
In his address, the Prime Minister announced that “Rajaji Utsav” will be observed at Rashtrapati Bhavan beginning February 23. As part of the commemoration, a statue of C. Rajagopalachari will be installed in the Central Courtyard, replacing the statue of British architect Edwin Lutyens.
Modi noted that Rajagopalachari, popularly known as Rajaji, was the first Indian Governor-General of independent India and played a key role in the nation’s early political history. The event, he said, will honour his contribution to public life and governance.
The latest Mann Ki Baat broadcast combined a warning about cybersecurity risks with reflections on technological advancement and national heritage, highlighting issues that affect both daily life and long-term development.
