Construction – Retention Wall Collapse at Gurugram Site Leaves Seven Workers Dead

Construction –  A tragic accident at a residential construction project near Gurugram claimed the lives of at least seven labourers and left several others seriously injured after a concrete retention wall collapsed late Monday evening. The incident occurred at a housing project being developed by Signature Global Society near Sidhrawali village, close to the Gurugram–Rewari border.

Gurugram construction wall collapse

Authorities said the collapse took place while workers were carrying out construction activities near a sewage treatment plant within the project premises. Debris and soil from the collapsing structure buried several labourers who were working in the basement area of the site.

Wall Collapse During Evening Construction Work

According to preliminary information gathered by the police, around 15 labourers were present at the location when the accident occurred at approximately 8 pm. The concrete retaining wall of the sewage treatment plant structure suddenly gave way, causing a large section of earth and construction material to fall into the excavation pit.

The sudden collapse trapped multiple workers beneath the debris before they could move to safety. Several labourers working nearby immediately rushed to help their colleagues and began pulling people out of the rubble.

Witnesses said that fellow workers and passers-by initially carried out the rescue effort using their hands and basic tools available at the site until emergency services arrived.

Rescue Teams Reach Site and Begin Operation

Shortly after the incident was reported, teams from the State Disaster Response Force, the fire brigade and civil defence units were dispatched to the construction site. Rescue teams used equipment to clear the debris and search for trapped workers.

Senior officials from the local administration and police department also reached the site to supervise the rescue operation. Authorities stated that the administration was informed about the collapse nearly an hour after it took place, following which emergency responders were mobilised.

Rescue personnel worked through the debris and managed to pull out 12 workers during the operation.

Casualties and Injured Workers Identified

Out of the labourers rescued from the rubble, seven were declared dead, while five others were found with serious injuries and immediately transported to the Government District Hospital for treatment.

Officials confirmed that six of the deceased workers have been identified as Satish, Bhagirath, Milan, Shiv Shankar, Mangal and Parmeshwar. Identification of the remaining victim is still being verified by authorities.

Among the injured workers admitted to the hospital, Chotelal, Deendayal, Shivkant and Indrajeet were reported to be in critical condition at the time of admission. Doctors are continuing to monitor their health as treatment proceeds.

Families Demand Accountability from Builder

Following the accident, family members of the deceased labourers reached the site and later the hospital, demanding answers regarding the circumstances that led to the collapse.

Relatives of the victims have urged representatives of the construction company associated with the project, Signature Global Society, to meet them and provide clarification about the safety measures in place at the site. As of now, the developer has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Investigation Ordered into Construction Safety

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the structural failure. Officials are examining whether proper construction safety guidelines and structural standards were followed during the ongoing work at the project.

Authorities are also reviewing site documentation, safety compliance records and statements from workers present during the accident. The investigation will focus on identifying possible lapses in safety practices or construction procedures that may have contributed to the collapse.

Local administration officials stated that further action will be taken once the findings of the investigation are available.
