Chamoli Train Accident: Two Loco Trains Collide in the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project, Injuring Sixty
Chamoli Train Accident: According to District Magistrate (DM) Gaurav Kumar, 109 people were on board when a loco train carrying workers and officials collided with a goods train inside the Pipalkoti tunnel of the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project on Tuesday night, December 30, injuring at least 60 workers. All of the wounded were saved, treated at the hospital, and now have stable conditions.

Around ten o’clock at night, two trains collided within the tunnel. One train was transporting goods, while the other was transporting construction personnel. Within the building site, both trains were in operation. One train collided with the other from behind as a result of an unexpected technical issue. Workers lost their equilibrium as a result of the accident within the tunnel’s tight, dark stretch, and some of them fell into the train compartments.Four to five of the 42 patients who were admitted to the district hospital had fractures. Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti has received 17 new patients. In the project area, two trains collided… “Both hospitals have our force and administrative officials present,” said SP Chamoli, Surjeet Singh.
In Chamoli district, the 444 megawatt Vishnugad–Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project will be built on the Alaknanda River between Helang and Pipalkoti. The project is anticipated to be finished next year and will generate 111 megawatts of electricity using four turbines.
