Assam: HM Shah opens Srimanta Sankardeva’s Rs 227-crore restored birthplace
Assam: The Rs 227-crore reconstruction of Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Sankardeva, in Assam’s Nagaon district was officially opened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday.

He said that India’s cultural and spiritual cohesion is still guided by the teachings of the Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankardeva.
Speaking to a sizable crowd at Batadrava Than, HM Shah said that the great saint’s principles of inclusivity, peace, and cultural renewal are still very much applicable today. He said Sankardeva’s ideology was crucial in forming Assam’s civilizational identity and commended the people of Assam for maintaining their customs and values in spite of historical difficulties.
Locals gave the Home Minister a hearty and customary greeting when he arrived in the Nagaon area earlier in the day. Following his helicopter ride from Guwahati to Borduwa, HM Shah was welcomed with lively Assamese cultural performances that highlighted the state’s rich legacy.
The Home Minister was spotted applauding in time as the devotional music reverberated around the ancient location during the celebration, which included traditional Gayan-Bayan and Diha Naam performances.
In addition to greatly enhancing amenities for devotees and tourists, the recently renovated Batadrava Than complex is intended to protect and promote Srimanta Sankardeva’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
According to officials, the project’s goal is to make the location a significant spiritual and cultural hub, enhancing both religious tourism and cultural awareness.
After the ceremony, HM Shah is expected to proceed to Guwahati, where he will visit the recently built Swahid Smarak Kshetra to honor the Assam Movement’s sacrifices. Those who lost their lives during the historic Anti-Foreigner Agitation are honored at the monument.
In order to improve public safety and urban policing, the Home Minister will later in the day unveil a number of significant infrastructure projects in the state capital, such as the Rs 189-crore Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS) and the Rs 111-crore new Guwahati Police Commissionerate building.
In addition, HM Shah will open the Rs 291-crore Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex in Guwahati, a cutting-edge auditorium that can accommodate 5,000 people and is anticipated to grow into a significant Northeastern center for public and cultural activities.
The Center’s emphasis on Assamese infrastructural development, security, and cultural heritage was highlighted during the Home Minister’s visit.
