Assam Elephant Death: Five coaches derailed when the Saurang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express struck a herd, killing eight elephants
Assam Elephant Death: The Saurang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express struck a group of elephants in Assam’s Lumding division on Saturday morning, killing at least eight of them. According to authorities, a herd of wild elephants was crossing the railway line when the incident occurred, as reported by Jagran.com. While giving specifics, they said that the sad tragedy occurred because of the morning’s poor visibility caused by the heavy fog. The train’s engine and five carriages were derailment-prone due to the collision’s extreme severity.

Nevertheless, the authorities emphasized that the mishap did not cause any injuries to any of the passengers. They said that the event has caused problems by interfering with rail services in Upper Assam and other Northeastern areas. Rescue activities have been initiated by the railway authorities, and special plans are being made to provide passengers other modes of transportation.
“The locomotive and five coaches of Train No. 20507 DN Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed at around 02.17 am on the Jamunamukh-Kampur stretch under the Lumding Division of N.F. Railway due to elephant attacks. There have been no passenger fatalities or injuries, Northeast Frontier Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said.
