Arunachal Double Suicide: Engineer Takes His Own Life After Being Accused of Sexual Assault Officer of IAS
Serious accusations of sexual assault against high government officials have come into sharp relief after two deaths that occurred within hours of one another in a terrible series of events that have rocked Arunachal Pradesh.
On October 23, a 19-year-old boy was discovered dead in Itanagar, marking the first instance. He accused two senior officials, an IAS officer and a Public Works Department (PWD) engineer, of harassment and abuse in a handwritten letter that police subsequently found.
The message implied that the young person had endured months of misery and intimidation, authorities said. According to India Today, he said that threats, manipulation, and personal exploitation were among the things that led him to commit suicide.
“He will be to blame if I pass away. In the suicide note, the victim pleaded, “Please give me justice.”
According to the FIR, “a suicide note found on the deceased clearly identifies Shri Talo Potato, IAS, who is currently assigned to Delhi as Special Secretary, PWD, and Shri Likwang Lowang, Executive Engineer (RWD), who is currently assigned to Chiyang Tajo, as the individuals who drove him to the verge of despair and, ultimately, to death.”
The FIR also stated: “He claimed that Sri Talo Potom, who later hired him as MTS on a contractual basis, continuously pressured him to carry out corrupt activities and to give illegal favors in matters pertaining to departmental works and funds, and to act at his request in order to carry out his illegal works. Additionally, it has been claimed that the accused individual has sexually exploited him.
The engineer mentioned in the accusations was discovered dead in what seemed to be a suicide a few hours after the message was discovered. According to police, his corpse was found at approximately 11 a.m. by a neighbor who called the police after discovering his house unlocked. Likwang Lowang, the engineer, is accused of shooting himself.
Talo Potom (IAS) is the cause of my demise. I wouldn’t have killed myself if he hadn’t hired me for this position. The engineer said in his suicide letter, “I did everything I did because of him, and now there’s no way left to live.”
At the Nirjuli Police Station, an unnatural death case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. According to senior authorities, all relevant evidence is being gathered and investigations are underway.
Since then, the youth’s family has filed a First Information Report (FIR), claiming harassment, exploitation, and aiding suicide. In addition to examining call logs and other technological evidence related to the crime, they have requested the authorities to retain the suicide note.
Civil society organizations are demanding an unbiased investigation and responsibility in response to the two fatalities, which have caused significant alarm across the state. According to police authorities, forensic study of the message is underway, and testimonies from coworkers and family members are being recorded.
