Arrest – Kerala Youth Congress Leader Held in Woman Suicide Case
Arrest – A senior office-bearer of the Kerala Youth Congress has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a young woman who was found hanging at her home earlier this month.

The arrest of Suhail Ansari, the State General Secretary of the Kerala Youth Congress, marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the woman’s death. Ansari, who had been working as the public relations officer of a private school in the district, was detained by local police from his residence in the early hours of Wednesday.
Woman Found Dead at Residence
The deceased, a native of Sooranad, was discovered hanging inside her house on February 14. According to officials, preliminary observations indicated marks on her body that suggested physical assault. The presence of these injuries initially led relatives and local residents to suspect her husband.
Investigators said the woman had reportedly argued with her husband the previous night. Following the dispute, he allegedly left the house after taking her mobile phone. This detail became crucial in the early stages of the probe, as police attempted to reconstruct the events leading up to her death.
Discovery of Handwritten Notes
No suicide note was recovered during the inquest conducted on the day her body was found. However, three handwritten notes surfaced three days later when family members searched the house more thoroughly. The notes were reportedly located inside a personal diary and were subsequently handed over to the police for examination.
In one of the writings, the woman allegedly accused Ansari of subjecting her to persistent harassment. Police sources indicated that the contents of the notes prompted investigators to widen the scope of the inquiry beyond the immediate family.
Scientific Examination and Digital Evidence
Officials stated that the arrest was not made solely on the basis of the handwritten material. The documents were sent for scientific analysis to verify authenticity. Only after forensic confirmation and the collection of supporting evidence did police move forward with the arrest.
Further strengthening the case were WhatsApp conversations retrieved from the woman’s mobile phone. During questioning, her husband reportedly produced the device, enabling investigators to access digital exchanges that are believed to have corroborated the allegations mentioned in the notes.
Police sources added that the digital evidence played a key role in establishing a possible pattern of communication between the woman and the accused in the days preceding her death.
Questions Over Initial Probe
The case has also drawn attention to the procedures followed during the initial inquest. Under standard protocol, all relevant materials linked to an unnatural death are expected to be documented and secured at the earliest stage of investigation. The delayed discovery of the notes has raised questions in some quarters about whether every potential piece of evidence was identified during the first inspection.
Authorities have not publicly commented on these concerns but have maintained that the investigation is proceeding in accordance with legal norms.
Political Repercussions
Ansari had earlier worked as a teacher before stepping into the role of public relations officer at the school. Alongside his professional responsibilities, he remained active in political circles as a Youth Congress functionary.
His arrest comes at a politically sensitive time. The development follows the recent arrest of Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in a separate criminal case. Although he was later granted bail, that case has already triggered sharp political exchanges in the state, particularly with Assembly elections approaching.
With the latest arrest, political observers expect further debate within Kerala’s political landscape. Meanwhile, police have indicated that the investigation into the woman’s death is ongoing, and additional steps will be taken based on emerging evidence.
