Ahmedabad Diary: The focus is diverted by the chief minister’s jab at corruption

Ahmedabad Diary: CM’s criticism of corruption steals the show.

As CM Bhupendra Patel recently laid the groundwork for development projects in Surat valued at over Rs 600 crore, he took use of the occasion to make a strong statement against corruption. In his characteristic “soft but firm” tone, Patel congratulated the civic body at an event hosted by the Surat Municipal Corporation and SUDA at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. He said, “Congratulations to the corporation…” for taking only the amount of tax that belongs to the corporation,” pausing before grinning and making an indirect but scathing jab at corrupt practices.

A significant overhaul of the state BJP leadership is planned.

BJP state president Jagdish Vishwakarma, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and his deputy Harsh Sanghvi came in Delhi on Saturday, sparking rumors of an upcoming party reorganization. Following a meeting that PM Modi convened behind closed doors, the rumors began to spread. According to sources, the meeting’s first emphasis was on reorganizing the BJP’s state organization before moving on to discuss the Gujarat government’s performance. With more representation for Saurashtra leaders, the new organizational structure will be in line with the 2027 Assembly elections and future local body elections. Several leaders are anticipated to be involved in the redesign.

A bureaucratic reorganization is imminent in Gujarat.

In order to make room for three IAS officials who have returned from central deputation, the state is planning a minor bureaucratic reorganization; transfers are anticipated by the last week of December. While Sandhya Bullar and Lochan Sehra have returned from the Department of Space and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ajay Kumar has returned from the Ministry of Defense. Postings are being worked out, according to Secretariat sources, with departments like GST, Finance, and Revenue being taken into account. Ten to twelve IAS officials may be transferred as part of the reorganization to guarantee permanent positions in important departments.
