Trump : After Caracas promised to cooperate “cancels” a second round of assaults on Venezuela
Trump: Following his military action in Caracas that resulted in the capture of the South American nation’s leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has canceled a second wave of military attacks on Venezuela. He cited improved cooperation from Caracas and the release of numerous political prisoners as part of efforts to “seek peace.”
As relations between Washington and Caracas enter a phase of cooperation, especially on rebuilding and modernizing Venezuela’s oil and gas infrastructure, which Trump had previously stated following the initial wave of attack on Saturday, the US President said in a post on Truth Social that the decision to halt additional strikes makes sense.
The release of prisoners from Venezuela was deemed a “very important and smart gesture” by him.
Trump did, however, add that even if the fresh offensive activities are no longer anticipated, US military personnel in the area would continue to be on alert.Many political prisoners are being released by Venezuela as a show of “Seeking Peace.” This is a really wise and significant gesture. The United States and Venezuela are collaborating well, particularly in the area of reconstructing their oil and gas infrastructure in a larger, better, and more contemporary form. All ships will remain in their current positions for safety and security reasons, however I have canceled the second round of attacks that was originally anticipated due to this cooperation.
According to Trump’s tweet, big oil firms would spend at least USD 100 billion in Venezuela’s energy sector, and he wants to meet with senior White House staff to discuss these plans.”BIG OIL will invest at least $100 billion, and I will be meeting with all of them at the White House today,” he said in his post.
The action follows almost a week after Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were taken prisoner by the United States during a “large-scale strike” in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas on Saturday.
In a coordinated effort by US law enforcement and intelligence services, Maduro and Flores were airlifted out of the nation.
They are now on trial after being charged with “drug trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracies” in the Southern District of New York.
Earlier, El Cooperante reported that Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, who served as Maduro’s vice president, claimed that the country will continue to pursue a diversified economic strategy involving major markets across all continents, but she also said that relations with the US have suffered an unprecedented “stain.”
Rodriguez said that the US has adopted a policy of “exclusion” against Venezuela during a live broadcast on official broadcaster VTV. He emphasized that trade and economic connections between the two nations are neither out of the ordinary nor excessive.
Nevertheless, Rodriguez emphasized Venezuela’s openness to international collaboration by stating that both the public and private sectors will have access to foreign markets.
Trump, meanwhile, said that Venezuela is “committed” to conducting business with the US as its primary partner and that the move is “wise and very beneficial” for both nations. He also stated that Venezuela will use the money from a new oil arrangement to buy items manufactured only in the US.
