RegimeChange – Reza Pahlavi Calls Khamenei Killing a Turning Point

RegimeChange –  The death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has prompted a strong reaction from exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who described the development as a decisive moment in the country’s modern history. In public remarks this week, Pahlavi said the event signals what he called the “beginning of the very end” for Iran’s ruling establishment.

Iran regime change turning point

Writing in an opinion column for a major U.S. newspaper and speaking in a televised interview, Pahlavi characterized the killing as a fundamental shift in Iran’s internal balance of power. He argued that the situation presents what he termed a long-awaited opportunity for change within the country.

Public Praise for U.S. Action

In his published remarks, Pahlavi directly addressed U.S. President Donald Trump, expressing gratitude for authorizing military strikes that he believes altered political dynamics inside Iran. He wrote that the president’s decision had emboldened many Iranians who oppose the current system of governance.

During a television appearance, Pahlavi repeated his view that recent events represent a pivotal turning point. He said celebrations among members of the Iranian diaspora, as well as reactions from within Iran, reflect widespread anticipation for political change. According to Pahlavi, many Iranians see this moment as the culmination of long-held hopes for reform or transformation.

Criticism of the Islamic Republic

Pahlavi used both platforms to sharply criticize the Islamic Republic’s record over the past four decades. He accused the leadership of pursuing expansionist policies, interfering in neighboring countries, and supporting armed groups across the region. He also pointed to Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile development as sources of international tension.

Referring to past conflicts involving the United States, Pahlavi alleged that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was responsible for the deaths of American personnel, including hundreds of service members targeted by improvised explosive devices in Iraq. These claims, long cited by U.S. officials, remain a central issue in Washington’s approach to Tehran.

Transition Plan and Governance Vision

Presenting himself as a leading figure in a possible post-regime transition, Pahlavi said he is working with supporters inside and outside Iran to prepare for what he described as a structured and stable process. He emphasized the importance of avoiding institutional collapse or political chaos.

Central to his proposal is a framework known as the Iran Prosperity Project. According to Pahlavi, the initiative outlines immediate steps for stabilizing the country during the first hundred days following a political shift. He stressed that the plan is designed to prevent a power vacuum and maintain essential state functions.

Pahlavi said the longer-term objective would involve drafting a new constitution, to be approved through a national referendum. Free elections under international supervision would follow, he added. In his televised interview, he suggested the entire process—from the start of transition to a final constitutional vote—could be completed within a few years.

Vision for U.S.-Iran Relations

Looking beyond domestic politics, Pahlavi framed a future democratic Iran as a potential strategic partner for the United States. He said many Iranians view Washington as an important ally in rebuilding the country’s economy and institutions.

He also highlighted economic prospects, arguing that renewed trade and investment could generate significant opportunities for both nations. Reopening Iran’s market, he suggested, could produce substantial economic impact for American businesses while aiding Iran’s recovery.

A Defining Moment

Concluding his written remarks, Pahlavi said that if Iranians succeed in reshaping their political system, the current U.S. administration would be remembered for supporting that effort. Whether his vision gains traction inside Iran remains uncertain, but his statements underscore the profound uncertainty and potential transformation facing the country.

As events continue to unfold, the international community will be closely watching how Iran navigates this critical juncture in its political history.
