Greetings from India: German Chancellor Merz is in India today to meet with Prime Minister Modi
Greetings from India: Friedrich Merz, the Federal Chancellor of Germany, began a two-day formal visit to India on Monday after taking office.

A major turning point in India-Germany relations will be reached later today when Merz, who arrived in Ahmedabad earlier today, meets with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two countries are commemorating 25 years of their Strategic Partnership and 75 years of diplomatic ties.
Chancellor Merz was greeted cordially by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat at the airport upon his arrival in the western state, according to a Ministry of External Affairs post on X. PM Modi invited the visit to take place.Greetings from India! On an official visit, Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz has arrived in Ahmedabad. At the airport, the Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat, Shri Acharya Devvrat, extended a warm welcome. Germany and India are commemorating 25 years of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership and 75 years of diplomatic relations. The MEA tweet said, “Chancellor Merz’s visit and his meeting with PM Narendra Modi later in the day will further strengthen India-Germany partnership.”
Merz is scheduled to visit India between January 12 and January 13. This is Merz’s first official trip to India.
The two leaders will visit the Sabarmati Ashram at approximately 9:30 am today, and they will take part in the International Kite Festival at the Sabarmati Riverfront at around 10 am. Bilateral meetings will thereafter take place in Gandhinagar’s Mahatma Mandir starting at 11:15 a.m.
The India-Germany Strategic Partnership recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, and the two leaders will discuss its progress.
Along with expanding cooperation in important areas of defense and security, science, innovation and research, green and sustainable development, and people-to-people ties, their conversation will also center on further stepping up cooperation in trade and investment, technology, education, skilling, and mobility.
In addition, Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Merz will interact with business and industrial leaders from both nations and share opinions on matters of regional and international significance.
It is anticipated that the visit would strengthen the momentum created by frequent high-level political exchanges and provide a chance to reiterate Germany and India’s common goal of creating a forward-thinking alliance that will benefit both nations as well as the larger world community.
After visiting Bosch, Nano Science and Engineering, and CeNSE on January 13, Merz will leave for Germany.
During their most recent talks, which took place outside of the G7 Summit in Canada, PM Narendra Modi and Chancellor Merz decided to deepen their bilateral strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Modi extended an official invitation to the German Chancellor to visit New Delhi during the conversation.
Additionally, the visit is happening in advance of the January 27 India-EU Summit.
