By creating an integrated AI platform that makes use of the greatest collection of government scientific information in the world, the Genesis Mission aims to usher in a new era of AI-accelerated innovation, according to a White House statement.

It said, “The Genesis Mission will build an integrated AI platform to harness Federal scientific datasets the world’s largest collection of such datasets, developed over decades of Federal investments to train scientific foundation models and create AI agents to test new hypotheses, automate research workflows, and accelerate scientific breakthroughs”

National labs, universities, commercial companies, research infrastructure, data repositories, industrial facilities, and national security facilities are all part of the nation’s research and development ecosystem, which will be brought together by the program.

In order to strengthen America’s technological superiority and strategic global leadership, the mission will “dramatically accelerate scientific discovery, strengthen national security, secure energy dominance, enhance workforce productivity, and multiply the return on taxpayer investment into research and development,” according to the statement.

The establishment of the American Science and Security Platform, which will include high-performance computing resources, AI modeling tools, domain-specific foundation models, secure access to government datasets, and AI-enabled experimentation tools, will be a key component of the goal.

To facilitate extensive model training, simulation, and scientific analysis, the platform will make use of Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory supercomputers, secure cloud-based environments, and cutting-edge AI technologies.

A minimum of 20 scientific and technological problems, including fields like advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, crucial materials, nuclear fission and fusion energy, quantum information science, and semiconductors, must be identified by DOE within 60 days, according to the directive.

After that, the APST will organize a broader set of problems to direct the mission’s study.

Interagency coordination, collaborations with academic institutions and business, competitive research initiatives, and systems for safe cooperation with outside partners with cutting-edge AI, data, or computing skills are all part of the endeavor.

As per the directive, the Secretary of Energy will be in charge of carrying out the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Genesis Mission. To manage daily operations, the Secretary may choose a senior political appointment.

Through the National Science and Technology Council, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) will coordinate participating government agencies and provide overall mission leadership.

According to the government, the Genesis Mission represents a significant advancement in the use of AI to meet national objectives and quicken technological, scientific, and security advancements.
