Airstrike – New Video Raises Questions Over Deadly Strike Near Iranian School

Airstrike – A newly surfaced video circulating in Iranian media appears to capture the moment a missile struck a structure inside a naval base operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the southern city of Minab. The strike occurred near an elementary school where Iranian authorities say more than 160 students lost their lives on February 28.

The footage, released by the semi-official Mehr News Agency, is among the first visual records showing missiles hitting the area. Analysts say the images could challenge earlier statements made by US President Donald Trump, who had attributed the attack on the school to Iran itself. The development has added fresh complexity to the ongoing debate over responsibility for the incident.

Video Footage Shows Missile Striking IRGC Naval Facility

According to reports citing international media analysis, the video was recorded from a nearby construction site overlooking the IRGC naval installation in Minab. The footage shows a projectile descending toward the base before detonating within the compound.

Weapons specialists who reviewed the recording suggested that the missile’s design resembles a Tomahawk Land Attack Missile, a long-range cruise missile widely used by the United States military. Israel does not operate this particular missile system, which has drawn further attention to the origin of the strike.

The recording does not show the school directly being hit. However, experts believe the school could have been affected by the same series of strikes targeting the naval base.

Experts Identify Missile Characteristics

Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, analyzed the footage and told CNN that several visual details correspond with a Tomahawk missile.

He noted that the projectile in the video appears to have a cross-shaped structure with wings mounted near the center and a tail section at the rear—features commonly associated with Tomahawk cruise missiles. The location of the camera also played a role in the analysis.

Lair explained that the video was likely recorded about 250 meters from the point of impact. At that distance, the weapon would need to be relatively large to be visible in the way it appears in the footage. This detail, he said, helps rule out smaller munitions that might otherwise resemble the missile seen in the recording.

Other analysts who reviewed the footage reportedly reached similar conclusions regarding the weapon type.

Debate Continues Over Responsibility

Despite these assessments, the political debate surrounding the strike has continued. President Donald Trump recently stated that Iran was responsible for the attack that struck the school in Minab. His comments came even as several media organizations published analyses suggesting the strike may have originated from US-linked military hardware.

Iranian authorities have strongly rejected those claims. State media outlets in Iran have blamed the United States for the incident and have called for international attention to the consequences of the strikes.

Civilian Casualties and International Reaction

The Minab school tragedy has become one of the most widely discussed events following a series of air operations targeting locations in Iran that began on February 28. Iranian officials say the strikes have caused widespread civilian harm.

Speaking at the United Nations on Friday, Iran’s ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said that at least 1,332 civilians have been killed since the beginning of the US-Israeli air campaign. According to Iranian figures, the victims include a significant number of women and children, while thousands more people have been injured.

The claims have intensified calls from humanitarian groups and international observers for independent investigations into the attacks and their impact on civilian areas.

As more images and videos emerge from the region, analysts say they may provide additional insight into what occurred during the strike near the Minab school. However, determining responsibility with certainty may require further verification by independent experts and international bodies.
