Dr. Singh claims that the weather quickly changes following Diwali, with chilly, rainy evenings and a rise in cold winds. These circumstances foster an atmosphere that encourages the growth of viruses that cause pneumonia.

Children and elderly people are particularly vulnerable to illnesses, such as pneumonia, at this period because their immune systems are often compromised.

Three Primary Reasons for the Increase in Pneumonia Cases

Air Pollution: During Diwali, firecrackers increase air pollution. Pneumonia is more likely to occur in those who already have lung diseases because the tiny particulate matter in the air may irritate the respiratory system and penetrate deep into the lungs.

Weakened Immunity: The immune system may be weakened by festive excesses like heavy and sugary meals. Pneumonia and other infections are more easily caused by bacteria and viruses when the immune system is compromised.

Drinking Alcohol and Smoking: Diwali festivities often include drinking alcohol and smoking, both of which damage the lungs and lessen their ability to fend off diseases. This increases the chance of getting pneumonia even more.

How Can I Avoid Getting Pneumonia After Diwali?
Dr. Singh suggests the following measures to lower the risk of pneumonia, particularly in young people and the elderly:

Maintain clean indoor air: To reduce your exposure to pollutants, use air purifiers and keep your surroundings neat.

Eat well: To strengthen your immune system, include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Seek medical attention as soon as possible: See a doctor right away if you or a loved one has chest discomfort, a persistent cough, or trouble breathing.
Continue to be active: Immunity and general health may be maintained with mild, frequent exercise.
Steer clear of alcohol and tobacco: Avoid behaviors that harm your lungs’ ability to operate.
Even while the holiday season is joyful, it also calls for more care for one’s health, particularly as the seasons change. The danger of pneumonia may be considerably decreased by adopting easy preventative steps, preventing hospitalization from ending the festivities.
