DigitalInfrastructure – India Opens Global Portal to Share Public Tech Systems

DigitalInfrastructure – India has introduced a new online platform designed to help other countries learn from and adopt its digital public infrastructure. The initiative, known as the India Stack Global portal, aims to connect India’s technology-driven governance experience with the needs of partner nations seeking reliable digital systems for public services.

Government officials say the portal will make it easier for countries to access technical knowledge, explore digital platforms developed in India, and understand how these systems can be adapted to their own administrative frameworks.

A Platform to Share India’s Digital Governance Model

The India Stack Global portal has been created as a resource hub where partner nations can explore the digital architecture that powers many of India’s public services. Through this platform, governments and institutions can study the design and functioning of several digital solutions that have transformed service delivery across India.

According to an official factsheet released on Friday, the portal provides technical documentation, implementation guidelines, and practical insights into the digital systems that support governance, financial inclusion, and identity verification.

The platform also aims to strengthen cooperation between India and other countries by enabling structured engagement, knowledge exchange, and collaborative development of digital infrastructure.

Agreements Signed With Multiple Countries

India’s effort to expand global cooperation in digital infrastructure has already gained momentum. As of February, the government has signed memoranda of understanding and agreements with 24 countries to collaborate on India Stack technologies and digital public infrastructure.

These partnerships focus mainly on sharing expertise, building technical capacity, and supporting the development of digital governance platforms that can be implemented in different national contexts.

Officials believe such collaboration can help countries modernize administrative systems, improve transparency, and deliver public services more efficiently through digital tools.

Digital Infrastructure Built on Scale and Interoperability

Over the past decade, India’s digital public infrastructure has evolved into an extensive ecosystem that supports large-scale economic activity and government service delivery.

The government noted that the architecture has been designed to be interoperable, allowing different platforms to work together seamlessly. This framework enables secure data exchange, faster service delivery, and improved institutional capacity.

Authorities say the Indian model demonstrates that it is possible to build digital systems at massive scale while maintaining trust, security, and regulatory oversight.

Aadhaar, Financial Inclusion and Connectivity

Several flagship initiatives form the backbone of India’s digital ecosystem. The Aadhaar identity system has grown into one of the world’s largest biometric identification programmes.

As of March 2026, more than 144 crore Aadhaar numbers had been issued. During the financial year 2024–25 alone, the system recorded over 2,707 crore authentication transactions.

Financial inclusion has also expanded significantly through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana programme. The number of bank accounts under the scheme increased from 14.72 crore in 2015 to 57.71 crore by March 2026. During the same period, deposits in these accounts rose sharply from Rs 15,670 crore to Rs 2.94 lakh crore.

Expansion of 5G and Digital Connectivity

Telecommunications infrastructure has played an important role in supporting India’s digital transformation. Fifth generation mobile services are now available in 99.9 percent of districts across the country, reaching around 85 percent of the population.

By December 2025, more than 5.18 lakh 5G base transceiver stations had been installed nationwide, significantly improving connectivity and enabling the growth of digital services.

Growth of Digital Payments Through UPI

Digital payments have also seen remarkable growth with the widespread adoption of the Unified Payments Interface. In January 2026 alone, UPI processed approximately 21.70 billion transactions with a combined value exceeding Rs 28.33 lakh crore.

This payment network has become a key component of India’s financial technology landscape, allowing instant transfers between bank accounts and supporting a wide range of digital transactions.

JAM Trinity and Efficient Public Spending

India’s broader digital ecosystem was built on the foundation of the JAM trinity, which integrates Jan Dhan bank accounts, Aadhaar identity verification, and mobile connectivity.

This combination has enabled the government to deliver welfare benefits directly to citizens through digital channels. The Public Financial Management System has further strengthened this framework by improving transparency in government spending.

Officials reported that the system helped eliminate duplicate or fraudulent beneficiaries in the Direct Benefit Transfer programme, resulting in savings of more than Rs 4.31 lakh crore between 2015 and March 2024.
