Mehbooba Mufti harshly denounced Nitish Kumar over a contentious episode in which he was seen removing a young Muslim woman’s “naqaab.”

The encounter was described by Mufti as frightening and quite unsettling. Although she had known and liked Nitish Kumar for years, she was shocked by the incident’s images, she wrote on X.

She questioned if this kind of behavior was a result of aging or represented what she called the increasing acceptance of “publicly humiliating” Muslims.

The most disturbing thing, she added, was that others in his immediate vicinity took pleasure in seeing this terrible event play out, which raised major questions about the tact and behavior required of public servants.

The PDP president took a firm political stance and recommended that the Bihar president Minister reflect and think about resigning, claiming that such acts diminish the dignity of minorities and weaken public confidence in democratic government.

Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, a member of the Lok Sabha, also objected to CM Nitish Kumar’s actions.

“The behavior displayed by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, publicly pulling at a Muslim woman’s burqa, is indefensible and deeply disturbing,” Ruhullah said on X. He must really apologize to the public and the lady. This inconsistent behavior is concerning and suggests that the individual lacks the poise and mental acuity necessary for constitutional office. It is essential to stand away and seek medical assistance.

Social media and political circles have responded sharply to the episode, raising concerns about the senior leader’s behavior and his regard for responsibility and personal and religious dignity in public life. During a felicitation function called “Samvad” at the CM’s secretariat, where appointment letters were distributed to over 1,000 AYUSH physicians, CM Nitish Kumar was seen on camera removing a Muslim woman’s veil. The video went viral.
