Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the administration is navigating what she described as “extraordinary external pressures” with a focus on stability and restraint.

Government Emphasizes Preference for Diplomacy

According to remarks carried by Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohajerani stressed that diplomacy remains the government’s preferred course of action. She noted that officials across various state institutions are working to ease tensions and maintain calm, even as social and geopolitical challenges persist.

“The government has consistently chosen dialogue over confrontation,” she said, adding that diplomatic engagement and strategic deterrence function together as pillars of national policy. These approaches, she explained, are designed to protect Iran’s sovereignty while advancing its national interests on the international stage.

Mohajerani underlined that diplomatic initiatives are being pursued seriously but with caution. Negotiations, she said, are approached carefully to ensure that national priorities are not compromised.

Military Preparedness and Strategic Deterrence

While reaffirming a commitment to peaceful solutions, the spokesperson also highlighted ongoing efforts to reinforce Iran’s defensive readiness. She pointed to recent military exercises as evidence of the armed forces’ preparedness.

Beyond foreign policy, the briefing also touched on recent protests involving university students. Mohajerani acknowledged the role of students as engaged members of society and affirmed their right to express concerns.

However, she stressed that demonstrations must respect certain boundaries, including national symbols and religious values. “Even in moments of frustration, there are principles that should be observed,” she noted.

The spokesperson also provided an update on a fact-finding committee established to examine unrest that occurred in January. The committee, she said, continues to meet regularly and is reviewing several issues, including the status of detained individuals. Efforts are underway to address concerns raised during the protests through legal and institutional channels.

Mohajerani described constructive dialogue as the most effective path forward for resolving domestic tensions. She urged all sides to prioritize reasoned discussion over confrontation.

In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the efforts of the ministries of science and health, along with university administrators and faculty members, for their role in facilitating the reopening of campuses. Their cooperation, she said, has helped restore a sense of normalcy within academic institutions.

The government, she added, remains committed to maintaining social stability while addressing legitimate grievances through established mechanisms. Balancing internal concerns with external challenges, officials say, requires vigilance, coordination, and measured decision-making.
