Infrastructure – Deputy CM Flags Delay in Gurh Water Project
Infrastructure – The Madhya Pradesh government has expressed concern over delays in a key water supply initiative planned for the Gurh industrial region, with Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla calling for urgent steps to speed up the project and strengthen basic infrastructure in the area.

Review Meeting Highlights Project Delays
At a high-level meeting held on Monday with senior officials from various departments, Shukla took stock of the progress of the Gurh water supply scheme. Despite the state government’s earlier approval and allocation of Rs 16 crore for the project, work has not been completed within the expected timeframe.
Officials informed the meeting about the current status of implementation, following which the Deputy Chief Minister voiced dissatisfaction over the slow pace of execution. He directed departments concerned to remove bottlenecks and ensure timely completion of the project.
Water Supply Plan for Nagar Parishad and Industrial Zone
The sanctioned project is designed to supply 10 million litres per day (MLD) of water, with 5 MLD earmarked for Gurh Nagar Parishad and another 5 MLD for the Gurh Industrial Area. According to Shukla, once operational, the scheme will significantly improve the local water distribution network and support industrial expansion in the region.
He noted that reliable access to water is a foundational requirement for both urban settlements and manufacturing units. The completion of the project, he said, would not only address civic needs but also enhance the investment climate in the industrial zone.
Basic Infrastructure Key to Industrial Growth
Shukla emphasised that essential services such as uninterrupted electricity, road connectivity, drainage systems, and adequate water supply form the backbone of any industrial cluster. In the absence of these facilities, potential investors are hesitant to set up operations, slowing overall economic progress.
He pointed out that the Gurh Industrial Area has yet to realise its full potential due to gaps in infrastructure. To address this, he instructed officials to accord top priority to development works in the region and implement corrective measures without further delay.
The Deputy Chief Minister also underlined the need for coordinated efforts among different departments to ensure that projects are completed efficiently and in a time-bound manner.
Employment and Economic Impact in Rewa District
A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Rewa, Shukla said that strengthening infrastructure in the Gurh Industrial Area would improve the industrial profile of the district and generate substantial employment opportunities for local youth.
He observed that the establishment of new industries would create both direct and indirect jobs, benefiting families across the region. Improved industrial activity, he added, would contribute to stronger economic conditions and higher income levels in surrounding areas.
The focus on Gurh aligns with the state government’s broader push to promote regional industrial development and reduce migration by creating opportunities closer to home.
New Industrial Area Announced
The renewed emphasis on Gurh comes shortly after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, during a recent visit to Rewa, announced plans to develop a new 100-acre industrial area in the Gurh region. The proposed expansion is aimed at attracting fresh investment and accelerating industrial growth.
The announcement is expected to complement ongoing infrastructure projects, including the water supply scheme currently under review. With additional land earmarked for industrial use, the timely provision of utilities and transport connectivity becomes even more critical.
Officials have been asked to align their planning with the upcoming industrial expansion so that essential facilities are in place ahead of new units being established.
As the state seeks to strengthen its industrial base, the Gurh project is being seen as an important step toward balanced regional development. The government’s latest directives indicate a push for faster execution to ensure that approved projects translate into tangible benefits on the ground.
