Security – Amit Shah Reviews Jammu and Kashmir Safety Framework
Security – Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday presided over a comprehensive security review in Jammu, focusing on the evolving situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the progress made in counter-terror operations.

Senior Leadership Reviews Ground Situation
The meeting brought together key figures responsible for the region’s administration and security. Among those present were the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Police of the Union Territory. Senior officials from the Central Armed Police Forces also participated in the discussions.
The review assessed current security dynamics, operational preparedness, and coordination between agencies tasked with maintaining peace in the region.
Focus on Dismantling Terror Networks
During the meeting, Amit Shah acknowledged the work carried out by security agencies in weakening the infrastructure that has supported terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir for decades. He stated that sustained and coordinated action under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the operational space for such elements.
Officials briefed the Home Minister on ongoing operations, intelligence inputs, and steps taken to prevent infiltration and disrupt support systems for extremist groups. According to the government’s statement, the broader terror ecosystem that once thrived in parts of the Union Territory has been substantially curtailed.
Renewed Push for a Terror-Free Region
Reaffirming the Centre’s position, Shah underlined the government’s commitment to ensuring that Jammu and Kashmir moves steadily toward lasting peace. Discussions included measures aimed at tightening the security grid and improving surveillance and response mechanisms.
The Home Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination among the Army, local police, intelligence agencies, and paramilitary forces. He directed all agencies to remain vigilant and to ensure that recent gains are preserved.
Shah also assured officials that the central government would extend full logistical and operational support to meet security objectives in the region.
De-Radicalisation and Youth Outreach
A significant part of the meeting focused on social initiatives designed to counter radicalisation. Shah noted that de-radicalisation efforts have yielded encouraging results and have contributed to stabilizing the security environment.
He called for greater engagement with young people, highlighting the need to expand opportunities in sectors such as start-ups, sports, and skill development. According to him, channeling youth energy into productive and income-generating activities is essential for building long-term stability.
Officials were instructed to strengthen programs that promote entrepreneurship and community participation, thereby reducing the appeal of extremist ideologies.
Visit to Border Outpost in Kathua
Earlier in the day, Amit Shah visited the Border Security Force’s Bobiya outpost in Kathua district. Addressing personnel stationed at the forward post, he described the Border Security Force as a vital shield safeguarding the nation’s frontiers.
He commended the force for its dedication and cited Operation Sindoor as an example of its operational courage. Shah told the troops that each visit to a border post reinforces his respect for their discipline, sacrifice, and commitment to duty.
The Home Minister’s interaction with the troops included a review of border management arrangements and an appreciation of the challenges faced by personnel deployed in sensitive areas.
Continued Emphasis on Coordination
The overall message from Friday’s engagements was clear: the government intends to sustain pressure on terror networks while investing in social and economic measures that support peace.
Officials indicated that security operations will continue alongside development initiatives, with the aim of creating conditions for long-term stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
