Google : Sundar Pichai claims that AI will drive online buying in the future as collaborates with international merchants
Google: In his announcement of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), Google CEO Sundar Pichai predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) agents will soon have a significant impact on how consumers purchase.

“AI agents will be a big part of how we shop in the not-so-distant future,” Pichai said in a social media post. We collaborated with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart to develop the Universal Commerce Protocol, a new open standard that allows agents and systems to communicate with one another at every stage of the purchasing process. Additionally, UCP will soon provide native checkout, enabling direct purchases on AI Mode and the Gemini app.
According to him, AI agents will play a significant role in the purchasing process by assisting customers in finding things, weighing their alternatives, and making purchases more quickly.
In order to facilitate this transition, Google has established UCP in collaboration with prominent international retail and commerce platforms, including as Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart.
A new open standard called the Universal Commerce Protocol was created to provide seamless communication between AI agents and other digital platforms at every step of the purchasing process.
According to Google, the protocol would provide a more connected experience for consumers, merchants, and AI-powered solutions by removing boundaries across platforms.
According to Pichai, native checkout will soon be powered by UCP, enabling customers to make purchases straight from AI-driven applications like the Gemini app and AI Mode.
This would simplify and expedite the purchasing process by reducing the need for consumers to go between several websites or applications.
UCP functions by establishing a common language across commerce platforms and AI systems. This gives AI agents standardized access to product information, price, availability, and checkout mechanisms. This enables AI to support consumers uninterruptedly from the point of product discovery to the point of final payment.
Customers may benefit from quicker and more customized purchasing experiences as a result. Through AI-powered shopping tools, UCP can assist companies and sellers, particularly those on platforms like Shopify and Etsy, increase exposure and consumer access.
