Russia: An explosion in Moscow kills two police officers

Russia: The Russian Investigative Committee’s press office said that an explosion in Moscow on Wednesday killed three persons, including two police officers, according to local media.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Russia’s top news outlet Tass said that two traffic police officers on Yeletskaya Street in Moscow saw a suspicious individual next to their patrol vehicle. An bomb detonated as the police arrived to take the guy into custody. Consequently, the suspected individual and two police officers were killed in the explosion.

At the scene of the event, forensic specialists, detectives, and emergency services have begun their investigation. According to the Russian Interior Ministry’s Moscow Department, the victims’ families will get all the support they need.

Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, the chief of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff’s Operational Training Directorate, passed away on Monday from his wounds after the detonation of an explosive device beneath a vehicle on Yasenevaya Street in southern Moscow, according to local media.

Following Lieutenant General Sarvarov’s death in a vehicle explosion in Moscow, Russian security authorities have been looking into a number of scenarios, one of which is connected to the participation of Ukrainian secret services.

“A number of possibilities about the murder are being looked at. Ukrainian intelligence services are connected to one of them. The inquiry into the incident’s circumstances is being supervised by the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office. At the emergency site, investigators and forensic specialists from the Investigative Committee are working; forensic and explosive inspections are among the many tests that are anticipated. In addition to reviewing CCTV material, investigators are interrogating eyewitnesses and witnesses. The central office of the Investigative Committee is now in charge of the investigation’s development, according to the Tass news agency.

Since 2016, Sarvarov has led the Russian Armed Forces’ Operational Training Department. He received the Suvorov Medal, the Order of Courage, and the first and second degrees of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.
