During New Year’s Eve festivities on Wednesday, over 2,500 police in uniform and plain clothes will patrol the Sydney metropolitan region in high visibility, according to a statement from the NSW Police Force.

The famous fireworks displays over Sydney Harbor are anticipated to draw up to a million spectators. After 15 individuals were fatally shot at Bondi Beach on December 14, the NSW Police Force said that the enhanced police presence would guarantee the community’s safety and sense of security.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said that certain cops would be carrying long-arm guns on Tuesday at a news conference with Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon.

“You can expect more guns for the police and less guns for members of the community,” he said.

“We need to show defiance in the face of this evil, and the best way of doing that is to spend some time with your friends and your family on New Year’s Eve on Sydney Harbor.”

According to the Xinhua news agency, Lanyon assured reporters that the community shouldn’t be alarmed by the significant police presence and that there is no particular danger to the public.

According to the NSW Police Force, specialists from the riot squad, mounted and dog squad, marine command, and aviation command will support general duty officers from every police district in the state.

The conditions for an independent investigation into the Bondi Beach terror assault were outlined by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese earlier on December 29, but he once again rejected proposals to establish a royal commission.

Under the direction of former intelligence head Dennis Richardson, the assessment will determine whether the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Security Intelligence Organization, among other institutions, performed as efficiently as feasible before the assault.
