North Carolina plane crashes: At a North Carolina regional airport frequented by Fortune 500 firms and NASCAR teams, a business plane carrying seven passengers crashed Thursday, resulting in a massive fire that killed many individuals, according to officials cited by news agency AP. According to flight records, the aircraft belonged to a business owned by former NASCAR racer Greg Biffle.

Officials say the plane crashed upon landing.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cessna C550 crashed during landing at Statesville Regional Airport, around 72 kilometers north of Charlotte, killing six passengers on board.

Sheriff Darren Campbell of Iredell County said, “I can confirm there were fatalities.” Officials later reported that the collision killed at least seven people.

At the Lakewood Golf Club, golfers playing next to the airport were stunned by the tragedy and even fell to the ground as the jet passed by. Debris obscured the ninth hole.

FAA begins investigating an accident in North Carolina
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were conducting an investigation. According to AccuWeather, clouds and precipitation were present when the collision occurred.

According to monitoring data published by FlightAware.com, the aircraft took off from the airport just after 10 a.m., but it later returned and was making an effort to land there. According to statistics, the aircraft was scheduled to take off later from Sarasota, Florida, to Treasure Cay International Airport in the Bahamas, then return to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and finally Statesville by nightfall.

WSOC-TV footage showed first responders racing onto the runway as fires flared close to the plane’s dispersed debris. According to the airport’s website, Fortune 500 corporations and a number of NASCAR teams may use its corporate aviation services.
