According to officials, a shootout in the Sohan village of Majalta tehsil in the district resulted in the death of one local Special Operations Group (SOG) policeman and the possible injuries of a terrorist.

Amjad Pathan, son of Bashrat Khan, a native of Salva, Mendhar in the Poonch district, has been identified as the constable. Two further SOG jawans suffered injuries.

The region has been placed under a strict security perimeter, and all terrorist escape routes have been blocked. However, firing exchanges ceased in the morning.

Following reports of the presence of three terrorists thought to be connected to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) group, combined troops began a search operation in the area, which sparked the encounter.

“In an intelligence-based operation, the army and J&K police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) engaged terrorists in a gunfight in the general area of Sohan, Udhampur district. Fire was exchanged with terrorists and the operation is in progress,” the army’s White Knight corps, based in Nagrota, posted on X.

After obtaining detailed information on the terrorists in the isolated area, police claimed to have made contact with them. Bhim Sen Tuti of IGP Jammu said, “A very tiny SOG squad engaged the terrorists! Due to the hazardous terrain and darkness, combing the woodland has proven difficult.

According to officials, one SOG jawan was injured in the incident, which happened in the encircled village at approximately 6 p.m. on Monday and lasted for a while until he passed away. They said that the operation was halted for the night and recommenced at first light, and that it was thought that one terrorist had been wounded in the first shootout.

To fortify the perimeter and get rid of the terrorists who are hiding, reinforcements have been sent to the region.
