Jharkhand government: The government of Jharkhand will update grants for unaided schools; 515 institutions are delaying applications due to increased demand

Jharkhand government: With matriculation, intermediate, or other test scores as the standard, the Jharkhand government has suggested raising grant amounts for unaided intercolleges, high schools, Sanskrit schools, and madrasas depending on educational quality. It is anticipated that this system would be set up similarly to degree colleges.

However, 515 unaided institutions chose not to submit their online applications for the 2025-26 grant, which had a deadline of December 13, in protest of the government’s failure to approve a 75% grant boost. The deadline is currently anticipated to be extended by the School Education and Literacy Department.

The state has set up Rs 100 crore for awards for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. Every year, around 620–625 institutions—including 40 Sanskrit schools, 334 high schools, 46 madrasas, and 195 intercolleges—submit the form. After being approved, barely ten to fifteen new institutions applied this year; no madrasa or Sanskrit school did.

The Vitt Rahit Shiksha Sanyukt Sangharsh Morcha (Unaided Education Joint Struggle Front) called for the suspension of applications, citing growing prices and pointing out that affiliated degree institutions had already received a 75% grant increase in 2024–2025.

Minister-in-charge Sudivya Kumar reassured members during the Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session that funding would be awarded on schedule and that quality criteria would be established for intercolleges and other establishments comparable to degree colleges.
